My son and I arrived for checkin around 11pm. The inn smelled of mildew. When we entered our room the mildew odor was excessive. I tried putting the a/c and fan on since it was hot and stuffy and a plume of intense mildew came belching out of the unit, which I quickly turned off not wanting to inhale mold and risk catching Legionnaires disease. I tried contacting the woman at the front desk to change rooms- called her twice- no answer. Called the manager on call- only got a fast busy signal, twice. We were stuck in the hot room without air conditioning or a fan for the night so we got poor sleep. When I checked out at the front desk and explained the terrible room conditions the woman at the desk told me the manager was in a meeting (code for she doesn't want to deal with this) so she sent Sarah, who told me she works in maintenance. Sarah had an excuse for every concern I had. She didn't smell the mildew; it wasn't mildew because she would have seen it on the carpeting in the room by the unit; they haven't yet cleaned the a/c s because they wait until after winter (this was May 15th- Spring, not winter. It was 74 degrees in our room). When I advised her that I tried contacting the front desk to change rooms, multiple times, she began to argue with me barking, " The woman who works the front desk after hours was too busy to answer! What do you expect!? There are over 100 guests staying overnight!" I told her It was almost midnight on Tuesday night and the lobby was dead when we checked in. Everyone is sleeping. Sarah began to argue with me and I told her, "Enough with the excuses. We didn't imagine our negative experience. The customer is always right and you just keep arguing with me." Jessica Peterson, the manager who was "in a meeting" heard us and asked why there are raised voices. Sarah started in again with the excuses and Jessica told her to leave. When I explained, for the third time, Jessica, too, dismissed my concerns. I advised her to go up to the room 625 and turn the a/c on. She was disinterested and seemed more concerned with defending Sarah. She actually accused me "abusing" Sarah when it was she who was rude and abusive. I was stunned. She hadn't heard our conversation yet she judged the situation to benefit her co-worker instead of the guest. When I explained about the risk of Legionnaires disease Jessica actually rolled her eyes at me. She said that the Inn is at full capacity and no one else has complained. A total dismissal of my concerns. Then I come to find that Jessica had already processed my credit card, without my permission, when I returned to the front desk. I told the woman at checkin I wanted to pay in cash. She advised me she needed a credit card to hold but Jessica went ahead and processed it giving me a measley $30 discount- the standard for appeasing a dissatisfied customer. I told her $30 was insufficient for the mildew odor that is now on my belongings and in my hair and she told me that was all I would receive and I could take it up with my credit card company. Then she dismissed me, rudely with a sneer of contempt. NEVER AN APOLOGY Never an ounce of concern or understanding. Just contempt. Their only concern was defending their rude, indifferent and inept coworkers. Extremely unprofessional management. Sneering and eye rolling at your customers is...
Read moreMy family stayed at this La Quinta location for only one night, but I wish we could have vacationed here for a week! Absolutely one of the best hotels we have ever stayed at (and we have stayed at a LOT). Morgan checked us in and she was an absolute delight. She chatted with us and gave us information about Hershey, PA since we were going there the next day.
The breakfast isn't the best I have had in a hotel (the sausage was a little tough and dry), but it's more than good enough to get your day started! My biggest praise is the fact that the room was immaculate! It smelled SO clean. Some hotels I feel so uncomfortable sleeping in because I am unsure of how clean it really is, but not here. I always check the sheets to make sure they are clean and the bedding here was crisp, clean, white and comfortable. I loved all the outlets and USB ports between the beds too. It gave us plenty of options to charge our devices- something most other hotels are severely lacking. One other thing that topped my list here were the pillows. Seriously. They were like marshmallows. I don't know what type of pillows they use, but they were absolute perfection for me and I wish La Quinta would send me one.
Some people have mentioned the window located in the shower, but I didn't find this to be a bother at all. You can't really see a thing through the window other than a faint, distorted shadow. I actually thought it was a neat detail in the room. I really loved the modern decor and appreciate the fact that there was so much storage space for luggage and belongings. The room was SO spacious!
The only negative thing I have to say about the hotel is that around midnight there were people making lots of noise by stomping down the hall or jumping around (as well as the sound of doors lightly slamming) that woke us up. My son, nor I, could pinpoint where the stomping was coming from, but luckily it stopped before I had to call the lobby for assistance. This in no way takes away from my five star rating, as this is something they couldn't control without knowing anything about it. I just didn't want to exclude this from my review.
I don't see myself needing to come through Winchester again in the future, but if I ever do I won't hesitate to stay at this hotel. Absolutely wonderful and one of the few hotels my family dreaded leaving. Thank you La Quinta for such a wonderful property! It may not be the Ritz-Carlton, but as a budget traveler and finding this hotel to be of excellent value, this property is now in my top three hotels!
P.S.: Again, La Quinta, my birthday is September 22 and I would seriously love one of...
Read moreI have been a loyal La Quinta customer for almost 6 years now. I stay at their hotels probably 4 or 5 times a year. This is one La Quinta that I refuse to ever go to again. First off, La Quinta's policy is that you have until 6pm on the day of your reservation to cancel and most don't charge your credit card until you are checking out. This establishment charges your credit card by 11am before you even check in. I'm driving from Texas to CT and back again. I am estimating that I'm going to get that far, but what if I'm too tired and have to stop earlier? Second, the layout of their rooms is not really nice. Their windows have no full curtains. They only come down halfway down the window, so if you are stopping during the day and are really tired, I hope you can sleep with the sun pouring in, because there is absolutely no way to stop it. Plus, the room I was staying in with my kids had a full size window in the shower, going out to the bedroom area. It was frosted so they couldn't see me showering other then my silhouette, but I like to shower when they are still sleeping, and the light needed to shower woke them up immediately because it was shining directly on them. Third, as soon as I left I realized that I forgot a small stool that my kids needed to wash their hands. I tried calling them for the next 5 days, while I was still in the area. Apparently they don't have a lost and found so they needed to talk to housekeeping. According to the front desk, they kept missing them. I tried all hours of the day, multiple times during those 5 days, planning on picking up on my way back through the area. They finally FOUND it when I said that I had already left the area, and then proceeded to tell me that I would have to pay an exorbitant fee to have it sent back to me. Thankfully my parents were passing through the area to visit my sister around a week later and were nice enough to stop in to grab it for me. Never again will I stop here. It was a complete overall...
