Reading some negative reviews here, it's hard to believe we ate at the same place. Showed up at 4:45 on a Friday without a reservation and the hostess was very up front that nothing was guaranteed since they are booked up. I was like hey totally cool, I've wanted to check this place out after hearing great things, including from my boss at work so we were happy to invest an hour and chill in the unassuming lounge area.
Luckily, a 5:00 reservation cancelled so we ended up waiting only about seven minutes. I thought it was really considerate of them to accommodate us.
The appetizers-seaweed salad, California roll, and dumplings-were outstanding, same can be said for our entrees: Kung Pao Chicken, green curry, and whatever the chef's specialty was that my wife ordered-all excellent.
In the past 30 years, 99+% of all Chinese restaurants have consolidated and serve the same garbage products. This isn't just good execution on that poor concept- it's actual family recipes like the sign says. It does not taste like everything else. Chinatown is it's own thing, and now the only Chinese food I'll eat in Winchester. It's real Chinese like when I was a kid.
Service was A+. No need to belabor the details but after a career in hospitality, the waiter did everything right. We were never rushed, our drinks couldn't get empty, and bothered to show the courtesy of getting us fresh soup broth to take our soup to go. We didn't request it, the gentleman just did it.
Lived here for years. Was as huge mistake to not come by sooner, but better late than never. Whoever these people are, they can run a dang restaurant. Bravo.
Thanks for an exceptional dining experience. Thanks for welcoming us into your house for an hour and a half on a Friday night. We're better for it and salute your...
Read moreI ordered take out, so I could grab it quickly and leave as I had a meeting directly after. I got there, and my food was still not quite ready. That's ok. I understand how food service goes. So, I'm sitting in the waiting area...I'm the only one there...and the kid comes from the back with a take out bag. Doesn't say anything. The girl at the register doesn't say anything. I assume it must be food for another person. I keep waiting. Finally, the girl who had taken my payment comes around carrying plates, sees me, says the guys name (I don't remember what it is) and says he's the worst. She comes around and gives me my food. I've been there for 20 minutes already. I get to my meeting, and there isn't any silverware or napkins. I don't normally call management, but I felt like someone there should know, so I call and explain what happened. I told them I'm not looking for anything, but someone needs to train that guy. The girl that answered the phone said "ok...ok. well, I'm sorry." Even the tone was 100% flat. Now, like I said, I'm not looking for any coupons or a refund, but some sympathy and an "I'll look into that for you," with at least a modicum of emotion would have been nice. I could have stormed back in asking for the manager. No, I probably wouldn't have gotten much more than a coupon for my next visit if anything, but I could have made your lives miserable for a while. I just want that kid to understand that you have to do more than exist to do a good job. Not that they really care, but I will not...
Read moreHorrible service here and they are insensitive to kids, people with allergies and disabilities. We went for the lunch buffet. We had to wait over 10 minutes, with two hungry little kids, for a table when the place was nearly empty. Then they put us up steps, when we were with someone who was obviously handicapped and obviously struggles with steps! The server brought drinks then took off, we had to spend the meal trying to hunt someone down to get refills and soup, which we didn't get until we were finishing. We had said a few times when we came in that the kids wanted wonton soup, making it quite clear. My dad had to go the whole meal with an empty glass, my son and husband went most without, and my autistic daughter hardly had any food because she was waiting on the soup, she doesn't eat much else. The buffet wasn't being freshened. The sushi wasn't labeled and no one bothered to, or was around, to tell us what it was. Turns out, it was shrimp (I've never seen that in California type rolls, thought it was crab), which I'm allergic to so was horribly sick after. Luckily, I heard another server tell a different table it was shrimp when they were seated so I didn't eat more. It then took FOREVER to get our check and pay. We left very unhappy after an all around crappy meal that I was then sick from...
