Students considering the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program should be aware of how strictly policies are enforced. I was dismissed from the program when I was near the end with a cumulative GPA of 3.4. With only one semester left in order to graduate, I received a “C” in a course and was not allowed to retake it. This program only allows two attempts at a class, and even a medical withdrawal is counted as one of those attempts.
In my case, I withdrew from a course due to medical reasons, retook it the following year, and earned a “C.” That was considered my second attempt, and I was dismissed from the program. While this rule is technically stated in the handbook, the document is lengthy and contains many such stipulations that can catch students off guard. If you do enroll in this program be sure to review the handbook with a lawyer so that you're aware of all the caveats waiting to derail you.
Overall, I found the program to be rigid and unsupportive, particularly for students with legitimate extenuating circumstances. In addition, the majority of the psychiatric courses are taught by 1 professor which has many disadvantages. For me, this was a disappointing outcome especially at a time when the healthcare system is in dire need of psychiatric nurse practitioners. Prospective students should read the handbook carefully with a lawyer and be fully prepared for a lack of flexibility if challenges arise. Based on my experience, this is NOT a student friendly program. I wish I had chosen a...

There is also "priority" living arragments to Seniors and Juniors, however I am struggle to get a dorm to stay in due to everything being full or rejection despite all the assistance I give to professors, clubs, and athletics....
