I chose the Zephyrhills, Quality Inn because my family has a 40+ year history here and I wanted to be nearby for my grandmother's funeral. There are only two hotels in town with an accessible room with a roll-in shower, which is required for my quadriplegic husband. This was the only accessible room available at the time of her funeral.
The shower floor was a bit mushy, but at least it was actually a roll in, right?
Night one, we were kept awake until about 3 am with very disruptive neighbors, who were either screaming at each other or making graphic noises. Night two, we bought earplugs and nyquil for sleep and it was tolerable. Night 3, I was in bed, attempting to fall asleep when my husband turned on a light. And I saw what I thought was an ant or beetle out of the corner of my eye. I reached for and grabbed it with my fingers and it popped, leaving a red mark on the sheets (I assumed it was someone's blood, hopefully not mine). I'd never seen that before, but I had my suspicions. So I put on my glasses and waited. And within a few minute's, I crushed 3 more Bed Bugs. I also brought one of the crushed and intact bedbugs to the service counter and I had my fears confirmed.
Eventually we were placed in another NON ACCESSIBLE room. But MAYBE it wouldn't have bedbugs? But the psychological damage was done. I spent the next many hours scouring our luggage and bodies for bedbugs and preparing to fly home. I had to purchase all new clothing. Our luggage at home is still in quarantine and I dont have access to my belongings, And worse, my disabled husband's belongings. His custom, $12,000 wheelchair is currently sitting outside and is covered in trash bags. Because of this situation, I was awake for more than 28 hours straight. I have also lost many hours of sleep since.
The hotel desk was apologetic, and I refuse to yell, or be mad at service workers, who have no control over situations. BUT, it has now been over 34 hours since we were promised a call from the hotel manager. And my patience is done.
Update: I eventually heard back from the manager. She acknowledged the issue and confirmed the refund of 2 out of 3 nights. She became defensive when I told her our local exterminator recommended a far more extensive protocol than she did. I decided to listen to the professional exterminator, rather than the manager who already...

Read moreDuring a recent business trip, our company booked accommodations at this hotel. One of our team members encountered a bed bug infestation in their room. Bed bugs were visibly present — a clear indication of a serious lapse in sanitation and pest control procedures. This is not a new or hidden issue. Given that hotel staff regularly change linens and clean rooms between guests, it is reasonable to expect that the presence of bed bugs would have been detected during routine housekeeping. The fact that the room was still assigned to a guest suggests either a failure to conduct basic inspections or willful neglect of a known problem. The issue was reported to staff immediately, yet the response was insufficient and lacked the seriousness this type of health concern demands. There was no assurance of corrective measures, nor any indication that surrounding rooms were being checked or treated. For context: Bed bugs are a well-documented health risk, as noted by both the CDC and EPA. They are easily transported via luggage or clothing and can cause allergic reactions, skin irritation, and psychological stress. This poses a risk not only to the affected guest, but to their families and future guests. The presence of these pests is a direct threat to guest health and safety, and it raises major concerns about the hotel’s compliance with sanitation standards and duty of care. Hotels are legally and ethically obligated to maintain pest-free conditions in guest rooms. The conditions we encountered reflect a breakdown in either management oversight or operational procedures — both of which are unacceptable. Until this hotel can confirm that professional pest control and regular inspections are being carried out, we cannot recommend it for business or personal travel. Guests deserve transparency and safety — not preventable exposure to parasites.
Edit after response: I tried uploading pictures of the pest activity but the photos aren’t posting with the review. My email is on the reservation if you’d...
