Fresh Country Cafe — Restaurant in Zephyrhills

I don't know how this place has so many good reviews. I was very underwhelmed by the food. The only good thing on the whole table that I tasted was the fried green tomatoes, which were very delicious. The meatloaf (I was told one of their most popular items) was not good. Plus, who puts both brown gravy AND ketchup on meatloaf? The gravy had flour clumps in it. The corn casserole was half cold, did not seem fresh, and the corn pieces were kind of chewy. The beef empanadas were different - I've never had green olives in them but that part was interesting and I would eat it that way again. However, the filling inside just tasted like ground beef and spaghetti sauce to me which was not appealing at all for this type of dish. There was no salsa or sour cream served with it. Parts of it were hot and other parts cold. When my food came, there was no cornbread that I had ordered. When I commented on it, I was told I was given a bread roll because they ran out of cornbread. The wait for food, service, and the bill was a bit longer than most places. They were out of several things other than the cornbread - such as baked potatoes and when it came time for dessert, there were now only 2 options instead of 4. I was going to give a 2 star review, simply because the waitress was a very nice young lady. However, because of the numerous unprofessional responses from the owner regarding negative reviews, I will not. His very unprofessional responses include replies where it is clear his only goal is to argue, emoji's and argumentative slang such as "smh", and admonishments that the customer should have spoken to him before writing a google review. It is a free country sir and if I want to write a google review with my opinions, I will. The owner will no doubt look up my information and analyze every single point of our visit from the exact times we waited to perhaps numerous arguments, one of which that I was I asked if it was ok that the meatloaf had both gravy and ketcup on it. My thought process there was that if the meatloaf was so popular maybe the combination worked after all. However, my intial doubt was correct - that the 2 don't really go together. It’s been 2 years since I’ve eaten here. I showed up for lunch with a friend at 12:16. It took a few minutes to get seated as it was very busy. Our waitress came over about 5 minutes later and took our drink order. We didn’t get it until 1230. It took her another 20 minutes to come back and take our lunch order. We put in our lunch order and waited 45 minutes to get our food. The waitress never came back to our table this entire time. While waiting we asked someone else to seat us at another table due to it being windy outside a cold gust of wind would come in every time someone opened the porch door. We never got another table as promised. We were ignored. About 10 minutes after we were done with our meal the waitress came over and asked if we would like desert. We told her just the check. We waited another 15 minutes for our bill and just got up and went to the cashier to pay our bill. This was the worst service. Employees were running all over the place but nothing was getting done. It was a chaotic mess. Now I know why I don’t eat here. At least the food was hot and it was good. But, not good enough to return. Maybe I’ll try again in another few years. There are other places to have lunch in town. This took 2 hours to get service, our food and our bill....

We had come here before and the service is really good plus food was wonderful,

but came back with a different group and we had a special the barbecue chicken and the barbecued ribs. The waitress we had asked her how many pieces of chicken do you get because I was going to split it with my partner and she said “oh you get a leg “ I’m like what? so I asked the manager he goes “no you get two pieces of chicken “ And so we ordered it. We got one piece of chicken and it was so dry we could barely eat it. Our waitress seem to have trouble hearing us. We ordered a beer and a wine and she came by and she said would you like another beer and wine? My partner said “yeah I’ll have a beer “ and I said “no I’m fine” . Two minutes later I had another wine , another person that was with us wanted just appetizer she asked for I think it’s some kind of potato thing on our appetizer thing and the waitress kept saying “that’s not very very much food “ she said “ yeah I know I don’t want much food “ she goes “well are you sure that’s all you want?” and so finally she’s like “well.
