In itself a nice hotel, but unfortunately the management is completely overwhelmed with his job. It can not and should not be that a simple problem like an alarm system malfunction keeps the whole system awake every night. The staff unfortunately can not do anything and the noise is heard throughout the house.
Anyone who wants to be accommodated on decent conditions should avoid this hotel. I do not even want to know how they handle more complex issues. A burst pipe in the room above you ???? Maybe we'll give out umbrellas after three days. Vermin in the room ... = Not our problem, but yours ... Customer and solution-oriented action is not to be expected here. Save your money and book elsewhere.
Read moreIt is hard to describe our experience with the Hotel Europa. It was a decidedly mixed bag. Some elements of this visit were quite good, but others were pretty good. Let's start with the good.||||The breakfast was quite nice here and we ate in the small, but well-lighted and cute restaurant while a man played on the piano in the lobby. The location is pretty good and you're within walking distance of many things and a short tax ride to most other sites. The hotel staff seemed eager to please.||||But as for the bad, well, I have to agree with the other reviewers: The rooms are a bit small and not at all well-lit. The use of motion sensors to turn on hallway lights when you get off of the elevator made me feel like I was in a horror movie - you know, the kind where the whole audience is yelling "Don't go down that hallway!" at the screen? The A/C units were quite loud. The hotel staff was eager to please but they also seemed overly-cautious or suspicious at times. You have to be buzzed in and out of the hotel lobby at all hours of the night or day and they make it a point to count the mini-bar items both when you check in and when you check out. And the building feels a bit tired. One morning while we were having breakfast, the staff were desperately trying to keep enough buckets under a major leak in the ceiling of the restaurant area. I felt bad for them.||||My overall takeaway is that the staff and management here are trying hard to make this feel like an upscale hotel, but they don't really have the resources to do so and are fighting a bit of an uphill battle.||||Bottom line? If you're looking for a place to stay in Montevideo and aren't overly picky, this is fine and affordable. However, if you're looking for a place with all of the amenities or are looking for a place where you can relax and be pampered - this probably...
