Ashot Shawarma — Restaurant in Montevideo

Long review alert.

Heard about this place a few times from couple of my friends and finally got a chance and time to pay a visit myself. Place is pretty small and have a even smaller Name plate in front which people can easily miss if you are not paying attention. We ordered shawarma roll (the most talked about item of this place) with a price tag of UYU 230 and found it pretty useful munching item if you are running low in pocket or want a quick but stomach filling snacks.

With an authentic Indian taste bud and loads of expectation when it comes to spicy food, sunk first bite into the wrap, and it felt fine, decent but not overwhelmingly good. It was filled in with enough chicken and other accompanied garnish but is not an authentic shawarma that I can say from my personal experience. But overall, the place is good, offers limited options but good quality food and most importantly is a nice place to quickly fill in your stomach if you are not willing to get into a fancy restaurant with full spread.

N.B.- They only accept cash, so make sure to carry some. If you still forget, no worries (I did forget too). There is a Kinko store just around the corner which has an ATM (Banred) inside. So no worries..!

The best shawarma in Uruguay! This is a no frills shop where ordering is so easy, you get a piece of paper where you put your name and tick what you want, pay and the shawarma gets to you very quickly! The shop is rather small but there were not much people eating in the shop. There is a queue waiting for shawarma but most were doing takeaways. I was only one of the few dining in the shop. I have to say the shawarma was really good! The portion is definitely filling and the meat is so tender and juicy. While eating there was still meat juices oozing out of it! Ashot tiene un menu reducido, son tan solo 3 o 4 items diferentes (con su seleccion de gustos), pero demuestra que cuando la propuesta y la factura son excelentes no se precisa mucho mas que eso para ser un exito.

Mi seleccion aca es siempre el Shawarma (tambien conocido en otros lados como Kebab o Gyro) comida tipica de medio oriente (en este caso de Armenia ya que es un Armenio el dueño del local).

De todos los lugares de Shawarma que he probado en mi vida, los de Ashot son los que he encontrado mas ricos, la carne esta muy bien saborizada, y los gustos tienen ese dejo de la comida Armenia y de Medio oriente.

Las porciones para un almuerzo estan mas que bien, y tienen el plus de que el Pan (Lavash) , una vez que el Shawarma esta pronto, lo pasan por la plancha tostandolo un poquito.

Para vegetarianos, preparan tambien los sandwiches (en el mismo pan del shawarma) de Falafel, una especie de albondigas de Garbanzo muy sabrosas, a las cuales se le pueden agregar los mismos sabores que al Shawarma.

Recomiendo tambien a quienes les gustan los dulces probar el Baklava, un postre de esta zona que consta de Masa de hojaldre rellena de frutos secos y miel o almibar. Son una delicia.

El preciodel Shawarma anda por 195$, lo cual me parece acertado para lo que brindan.

En cuanto al local es chico, y no hay muchos asientos (La mayoria en una barra que rodea el salon) y suele estar lleno asi que si quieren comer ahi vayan temprano o tarde, pero sobre el mediodia se llena siempre.

La atencion es otro de los puntos altos del local, Ashot (el dueño) esta siempre ahi, te atiende personalmente, y para quienes vamos medio seguido siempre se acuerda de uno y atiende con gran caildad.

Tambien para los consumidores frecuentes, cuenta con un sistema de tarjetas, en las cuales por cada Shawarma te dan un ticket, y al sumar 9 tickets el 10 Shawarma es gratis.

Resumiendo, el lugar me parece Excelente!
