GuestHouse Anora — Hotel in Samarkand City

I don’t usually leave bad reviews, but I feel responsible to share our experience.

Important: They do not accept credit cards. Bring cash, or you’ll be escorted to an ATM right away.

They advertise a private bathroom, but it’s actually outside the room in a shared common area. Other guests used it during our stay. When I complained, they first said it was for two rooms, then quickly told the other guest to stop using it. However, it has already left bad feeling with us and probably the guests upstairs.

The air conditioning is weak, the bedsheets smelled bad, and the bathroom design is questionable.

There’s no front desk—only WhatsApp communication, and even that was unresponsive during checkout. At that point, there wasn’t any instruction for the check out. We have to come up with a solution ourselves. It didn’t feel like a proper hotel at all.

Lastly but not least, they were hesitant to give us the required foreign guest registration. After insisting, they gave it to us—but with the wrong dates(we were stayed from June 12 to June 14 but they only offer the registration for the second night). It felt shady. Why not report the accurate information?

There are much better places in this price range. I’ve had great experiences in Uzbekistan, but sadly, this was not...

Absolutely love the deluxe room. It was just my partner and I, we were actually just looking for a room with 2 beds with attached private bathrooms. Turns out it was a spacious room that could fit 4 people! Likewise there is a built-in kitchen alongside bathroom. Perfect if you are a couple or a family of 3/4!

Service wise, Mr Jamol and his family are also super welcoming, friendly, hospitable and humble. For example: It was a really hot day, they went above and beyond by allowing us to have a small rest break in a small room before checking in officially. Likewise checking-out was such a breeze and hospitable!

Overall, we had an amazing stay experience on our first Samarkand trip.Definitely recommend anyone to stay at this place :)

The images are completely misleading and you will regret staying here. The room we received was extremely small, with 5cm of space around the bed. It was completely different to the one we had booked. We booked a spacious quadruple room with a sofa and two beds. Instead we ended up with a room with two beds that occupied the entire space. It was like sleeping in a closet. The beds are also extremely hard, it’s like sleeping on the ground and the bathroom smelled of mould. I have attached pictures to highlight the issue. It’s dishonest to put pictures of a completely different room on booking.com. They have multiple Anora listings and they all use the same photo of a luxury room - completely different to what you receive. If they had been honest about the type of room we would receive we would have cancelled the reservation and they would have avoided...
