⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️ The worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. For this price, I’ve stayed in much better places, and I honestly don’t understand how people can leave good reviews. The breakfast is extremely poor and lacks variety. The cheese and the two types of jam they serve are of very low quality — and I’m not even sure if the jams are replaced daily. As you can see in the photos, the bed has changed color and smells bad. All the sheets are stained. Instead of replacing them, the management prefers to reuse the same dirty ones. The biggest disappointment was the bathroom: there were urine stains in the toilet and hair on the floor. Their idea of “cleaning” seems to be limited to replacing the toilet paper and taking off their slippers when they enter the room. Since it gets cold in the evening, we turned on the air conditioner, but it was so noisy that sleeping was impossible. The staff didn’t speak English, so communication was very difficult. I absolutely do not recommend this hotel. It is not worth the money they charge.

We stayed at Hotel Legende on our last night before flying out of Samarkand. We experienced a cold spell, -5 Deg C but found a warm room with heater on ready for our arrival. Aziz was very helpful, and informative about the local area. His brother was also the perfect host, "anything you need, just ask". The location is perfect, just 10 minutes walk to Bibi Khanym, Siyob Bazar, Shah-i-Zinda and local restaurants. Breakfast was excellent, simple but fulfilling on a cold morning. I would love to visit again later in the year to experience the courtyard, it looks like a great place to chill after a day exploring nearby Samarkand.

Hotel Legende is a really charming hotel, with traditional decoration, a lovely and quiet courtyard shaded by an ancient mulberry tree, and excellent breakfast. Its best feature though is probably the staff: Aziz the owner is so friendly and extremely helpful with impeccable French and English. He went above and beyond to help us in a tricky situation and also help organise our onward journey. Rahim and all the other staff are a daily delight too. The rooms are comfortable and clean, and the hotel is perfectly located to explore all of Samarkand!

There are very few things during travel worse than a situation where you've made a reservation and then on arrival find out that the hotel is not prepared to honour it. ||||My experience was nearly as bad as that. I had made a four-night booking through a well-known booking site -- but just to be clear, not TripAdvisor -- but Legende Hotel would only give me two nights' stay. Despite booking over a month in advance and receiving confirmation, there was no prior message to warn me of any problems. ||||What happened was like this: When I checked in around midday, I was told they could only accommodate me for two nights, and I was asked to find my own alternative for the third and fourth night. The reason given to me was that the municipal water supply would be cut at 11am on the third day so I have to move out. On the face it, the reason sounded believable.||||The guy Aziz (owner or son of owner) at first wanted me to cancel my booking for the third and fourth night. I refused to do so because, based on the terms and conditions of the booking, cancelling (on my part) would mean I would automatically have to pay them for the third and fourth night.||||Explaining that to Aziz, he finally agreed to help me find an alternative hotel which they would pay for (and I would still pay Legende for the third and fourth night). ||||I had a sense that Aziz then avoided me for the next 48 hours, and I was left with no assurance that a suitable alternative had been found. How did I sense that? He seemed always to start making a call each time I approached him.||||Finally, on the day when water was supposed to be cut off, he rushed me out of the hotel at 9am. He had a taxi waiting for me without first even telling about it. I was bundled to another hotel not too far away. This other place had a lower price than Legende, and a slightly lower quality as I would later discover. It also meant that Legende would have benefited from the price differential.||||I got suspicious when the taxi was called and i was rushed out at 9am. After all, if water was going to be cut off at 11am, why the rush? I was also suspicious when I could see that no other customers were being transferred out of the hotel.||||So, later that evening, I decided to walk past Legende again to see if it was closed. If really, there was no water supply, it should be closed||||It was not. Lights were on and I could hear guests chatting happily in the courtyard, drinking, etc. I can only conclude that the reason given to chase me out and dishonour the booking was not true.||||I have a receipt (as required by the government of Uzbekistan) proving that I only stayed two nights at Legende instead of four nights originally booked -- and which is documented.||||Aware that this is a serious matter, I also attach three photos I took, not to help advertise the property, but to prove that I indeed had a room there and this report is...

An old house turned into a guest house is a charming idea. And this property has its charms.|| ||However, there was no proper registration when I arrived, a woman cleaning rooms, just pointed me to my room.||||Later that night, when I returned from dinner, another man, Aziz, probably the Owner was very drunk. Slurring his words, and not making much sense.|| ||Owner said some offensive words to my local friends at two separate occasions which is strange, because he seems to be a good and jolly person around foreign guests, when he is not drunk on. He even gave a brief history of the home. ||||However, anyone who does not welcome my local friends, will not get my business, I checked out and forfeited my last night there, as soon as another room became available elsewhere.|| ||There was only one light in my room, no light in the lamp. Although I was told it would be fixed, it wasn’t. || ||No proper 4G signal in my room, and wifi was intermittent at best, inside my room. ||Room number 7 is above the kitchen so expect to hear noise early in the morning.||||Breakfast was good, and served til late.||||Laundry hanging all over the property is not nice to see. || ||Property is tucked deep inside a dark, but very safe residential area, a good 15 to 20 minute walk to Registan or the main street, a convenient enough location if you are not afraid of the dark. But Samarkand is a very safe city so not much of a concern here.||||After writing a negative review on another booking website, I was contacted by the hotel and asked to remove my comments, instead of addressing the problem, I think that was...
