My wife and I visited a few days ago for a treatment - ended up going for a body scrub. When we arrived the young woman who greeted us was friendly but in a very forced kind of way - like the Americans who serve your table and are just faking it and acting up for the tip. I felt sorry for the poor woman, it was as though she was smiling to keep her job. More on that later.
We had our scrub after a 15-20 min wait which was fine. Climbed up several flights of stairs - no lift - and my wife and I had a private room so we could talk during it which was nice. I could clearly hear the 'scrubbing' of my wife's skin whereas with my woman it was more of a gentle stroke. Not to put too fine a point on it but suffice to say, after discussing it later, it turns out we definitely didn't receive an equal standard of treatment.
The women who did our treatment were friendly enough. At the end, after my wife and I had got changed and left the room the two women were stood outside - waiting for their tip presumably? I found that odd and the women seemed awkward about it.
The staff had us complete two forms... two paper hand written forms for a simple spa treatment? The first one was asking for name, address, phone number, email... personally I would rather not begin my spa treatment by being asked to complete this kind of form. The second form was at the end when you went to pay. The same poor girl who greeted us at the door was then obliged to hand all of the customers a 'feedback' sheet asking the customer to rate their experience under several different categories on a scale of poor, average good etc.
My message to the management of Estheva spa is: although customer feedback is helpful and valuable, perhaps don't shove it down the throats of your customers and put your staff under that kind of pressure. Authenticity and having happy relaxed staff is far more valuable.
The woman who did my treatment was kinda lazy to put it bluntly and Estheva spa is expensive compared to other similar spas in the area. You're better off in 'Dai Cat Foot Massage' or 'Lemongrass Spa'. The novice tourist looking to experience their first ever massage I'm sure will be delighted but this spa really is just ok and...
Read moreMediocre-bad experience, and rude masseuse. Disappointed.
I wouldn't say they are terrible but I think there are other much better places to go. Went to Estheva Spa last week on my vacation in Hanoi, saw that this place has many great reviews so my friends and I decided to give it a shot. The massage started off fine but then the masseuse clearly got distracted throughout the massage, she would sometimes press hard on my bones (I have been to many massages and I know that is not a suitable spot) and other times, she would just go through the motions and "move my flesh around" but not really press down. She kept chatting with the other masseuse in the room. There was one time where I was supposed to turn around to face up on the massage table, and the masseuse was supposed to cover my face/eyes with a cloth. She rudely threw the cloth at my face instead from a distance.
I am usually very fair and easy going , but this experience was so horrible I needed to leave this review so people would think again before visiting. To be fair, 2 of my other friends had a mediocre experience and 1 of my friend had a great experience, so I think it is a hit or miss situation. For the price point, I really think you can find another better place. There are so many good places around. When I feedbacked to the staff that I think the massage experience was average, they offered to refund me 20% - which was a nice gesture. I didn't take it because that wasn't the reason why I gave the feedback, I just hope they do something about this.
I would give this place 1 or 2 stars, but will raise it to 3 stars since the manager tried to...
Read moreThis place was perfect until I was asked to give a 5-star Google review, supervised by their staff. It does give an bad taste in service, but I do not want to discredit the actual masseuse's professionalism.
Pre-Service: 5/5 I was warmly greeted by the male staff and he made sure I was well settled down by providing me with a cup of cold tea for the hot weather.
Foot Treatment: 5/5 I had opted for their Foot Treatment, and the experience was simply amazing. My masseuse understood my body language and made occasional check-ins on whether the pressure of the foot massage was acceptable. Likewise for the paraffin masking, she made sure to warn me that it'll be hot, and did an initial testing with my foot. I do have to do some getting used to with the heat, but I really appreciated the pre-warning to brace myself for the heat.
After-Service: 3/5 My masseuse did not demand for a tip, which does shows a degree of professionalism. I was also served another cup of cold tea, and waited to settle my bill. However, before that happened, I was approached by the female staff and was demanded to give a 5-star review. With her supervising the entire process and with my phone within her range of vision, I had to give a 5-star review and subsequently changed it to reflect my true experience. While I admit that Google reviews greatly boost their visibility, I would like to suggest that they provide a more comfortable process of asking for their customers to leave a review. Customers SHOULD NOT be obliged to leave a...
