First let's say that a home stay is not a hostel: at Lan there is no reception, no staff, you live indeed with the family. They have 4 rooms, 2 on the third floor, 2 on the 4th floor, very nice rooms, my room did not have a window, and that is good, it keeps the noise out, the bathroom had a window, and there was also a small inhouse balcony to let some light in. The room had a fridge, a microwave, plates, cups, fork, spoon knived, chopsticks, Anna manages this homestay, very friendly, all contacts happens by app, if you have an urgency, do not message her, CALL her ( sometimes I had to wait hours for a reply, because she is a buzy woman :) ). You will get an entrance code for the front door and a key for your room. if you leave the room , all electricity is cut, so if you have food, leave it in the fridge of the family , on the second floor, The rooms have airco and fan, but in January it was cold, so I did not needed them.||About shops, there is a Circle Z (the local 7/11) at 100 meters, there is a Intimex (fresh vegetables, bread, meat, chicken etc...) at 700 meters, there is a VEY good pizzeria, (housemade mozarella, house made beers) at 100 meters, all 3 are on google maps. If you want to go for the home stay to the airport you can take bus 86 a few 100 meters away from Lan, only for 35.000 VND. The localtion of Lan is unique!!! In the old quarter, about 50 meters from one of the most beautifull lakes I have ever seen, Anna, was very helpfull, she helped me to buy my sim card, and her aunt washed my clothes (FOR FREE!!but probably that was just because it was me :P) I love Hanoi, very clean city, very friendly people, but the air is soo polluted, so bring a mask. oh and if you hear "the whistle in the wall", dont panic, that is when someone takes a shower, and that is the sound of the pump, it takes only 10 minutes. The picture attached is the entry of the alley, that is why it is difficult to find it on your own, it is well hidden, be sure that Anna gives you the code before you arrive, I will...
Read moreWe had a great stay here. The location is AMAZING, less than a block from the most festive lake in Hanoi, and the staff are very friendly. Rooms are comfy - nice King size bed, good TV, fridge, and water. We liked it so much we extended our stay like 3 or 4 times. A very good value for the $, would stay here...
