Town House Saigon Hotel — Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City

I booked for a private room that looked like it had nice pictures online. The place is near impossible to find down an alley because it is not listed on the sign at the beginning of the alley. We arrived early in the morning from the night train and had to wait 6 hours to check in (which was annoying but understandable if someone else were in our room). When we finally did get in our room the bathroom had black mold so bad it was going through the bathroom wall inside the room under the air conditioner. Due to the mold the bathroom was filled with hundreds of tiny bugs (the room has no windows and is on the second floor so there shouldn't be that many bugs, but the no windows is probably why there is mold). Our TV did not work -there was a huge message in the middle of the screen that you could not get rid of, you could not change the channel, change the volume, see what was on the screen or even turn the TV off without unplugging it. We had called down to the front desk about our issues and someone told us they would be right up, but no one ever came (we left our door open for over 3 hours waiting). When we went to check out they charged us 230,000 for a taxi to the airport when the taxi actually only cost 150,0000 by metre (the cab driver left the metre on). They told us we HAD to pay this much since there would be no cabs around 2 am when we needed to go to the airport, this wasn't true as the backpackers street was littered with cabs. We paid 40$ Canadian for this room and it was an absolute disappointment. We paid less for beautiful, CLEAN, 1 star rooms in Vietnam. I contacted the manager and they apologized and offered a refund but as I was waiting for a refund they replied to me that they would no longer honor their offer of a refund because they state that someone did come up to fix our TV (when? We were in our room the entire time), they claim the black mold is only “slight stains on the walls” and if we wanted a “spotless facilities” we should have booked somewhere else. We stayed in the dorm room which had comfortable beds but we had to ask to be given the Aircon remote which was really annoying because the first night we didn't have the remote and literally froze to death trying to sleep - I had to wear my fluffy jacket to bed because it was so cold. Also the water in the showers wasn't hot some days and some it was hot. The breakfast was good, but one day they forgot my order and so I was waiting a long time to get food. Very nice and chill hostel. Perfect if you're looking for something different than a party hostel. Clean rooms and bathrooms and the staff is very helpful. Good location and not noisy at all because it's located in an alley.
