This was the WORST hostel I’ve stayed in in Vietnam. Just pay 1-2$ more and you have a luxury compared to this. I have honestly no idea where the positive reviews come from. Where should I begin... There’s mould and dirt everywhere you look - even right next to your head in the bed. The bunk beds are so stupid that when one person moves even slightly, the whole thing shakes. It kept me awake pretty much all night. You get a (rleece?) blanket without a cotton sheet, which seemed strange, but the blanket was freshly washed... The lockers are tiny - definitely not for a backpack (and I only have a small hand-luggage backpack). The room for 6 people is really small, so the air becomes bad very quickly. The air-con had to be on thewhole night. There is no place to hang your clothes, which might seem a minor issue, but given the humid weather of Hue, the room end up being a messy hole full of everyone’s clothes&towels everywhere. The door to the dorm couldn’t even be closed, nor locked (totally broken). Plus a glass window in the door so there’s light coming intothe room the whole night - but that’s probably the smallest issue here. You have to take your shoes off when entering the hosteland wear a pair of plastic sandals, which I didn’t like, but it’s a minor thing and maybe even good, otherwise there would be plenty of stinking wet shoes in the room. Bathroom, if you can call it that way, is dirty and of course full of mould. The showers are literally above the toilets in the small toilet cabins... everything wet. And you’re taking a shower looking at the remains of someone’s nr.2... Nowhere to hang anything. I was so disgusted I didn’t even stay for breakfast. In the evening they made a “family dinner”, which seemed to be appreciated by the other travellers (I cant judge, I went to a restaurant). That being said, the dinner was “served” on the floor, everyone sitting onthe floor in front of the reception. As to the travellers I’ve seen there - well...I think it’s an ‘alternative place’ at the lowest price class, and that’s reflected on the type of guests. Nothing wrong about being ‘alternative’, pierced everywhere or such, but if you still like cleanliness, don’t stay here. If you stay here, be sure it’s what you want. I survived, there were no cocroaches and stuff, so it could be worse :D For 2$ more you get a muchbetter place. Oh and not to forget, they wanted to keep my passport at the arrival, which I refused sothey only took a picture. I wonder what could one break at such a terriboe place so that they have to keep people’s passports. I haven’t seen such practice at any other hostel/hotel in Vietnam and I consider it unprofessional; according to the law of my country (and I believe also other countries), it’s illegal to give my passport to...
Read moreInitially booked in for 2 nights and ended up extending to 5. As soon as you get there the girls on reception give you a map with all the coolest spots to see in Hue something I always love when I first get to the hostel. They also are more than happy to offer further advice based on their experience if you ask. Hanna, Trinh and Moc all really added to my experience here. Great hosts! ||||Every night there is a Vietnamese lesson and a family dinner which helps immerse yourself in to some of the local culture. I learned that it's very important to use the correct tone in Vietnamese if you don't want to be misunderstood or offend anyone as words spelled the same but with different tones mean entirely different things!! Thanks for the heads up guys :) ||||After the dinner theres plenty of fun to be had playing games, meeting other travellers or going out for a beer with the other people in the hostel. ||||It really is an amazing place. 10/10 guys! See you...
Read moreThe freedom hostel in Hue was by far the best hostel I have ever stayed at. From the moment that you walk in, to the moment that you leave you are made to feel so welcome by the staff working at the hostel. The family atmosphere and caring attitude makes the hostel feel homely and comfortable. I felt so comfortable that I extended my stay, even though I had seen most of the sights in Hue already. The daily atmosphere in the hostel is social and warm. The dorm rooms are clean and comfortable and I slept really well there. The family dinner was so beautiful, we started by learning some Vietnamese, then sat and ate together, following this the staff from the hostel created games for us to play as a group (on this occasion it was riddles and brain teasers). The evening was chilled and social. I would say that this is a perfect spot for solo travelers. I can’t wait to return there when I am nearby to meet some of the friends that I made at the...
