I've really tried to give these guys benefit of the doubt for things outside their control but frankly it's not good enough.
The hinge cover on my 2 month old laptop fell off and I couldn't get it to fit back satisfactorily so I took it in to the store. They said it looked like I may have dropped the laptop and I'd have to pay for any repairs. I definitely hadn't but what's the point in arguing? I want to be completely clear all that was needed was to get a new hinge cover and slot it into place. They wouldn't give me a timeline on the repairs but when I pushed they said about a month. I really need the laptop for work but figured I could borrow one from a friend until it's fixed. So I give it to them to be fixed. 2 weeks later I go in the store to check up on things, and the laptop still hasn't even been sent to the repair centre.
A month after handing it in, it's now at the repair centre but hasn't been "assessed", this time they proactively called me which I was appreciative of but equally they couldn't give me a timeline on repairs. I accept they don't do the repairs but they must have some vague sort of timeline, eventually I got "two more weeks max" out of the guy. Well 2 weeks come and go, and I get a call saying they can repair it but it will cost me $150. Seems ridiculous but I've not really got any other choice.
Another couple of weeks go by and I haven't heard anything but it's been Black Friday recently so I think they're probably a little bit stressed with all that. I call them a few weeks later because they haven't followed up at all and it's getting ridiculous.
Oh yes the laptop is here.
I ask how long it's been there. Over two weeks! It's been sitting in the store for two weeks and no one has thought to call. The guy apologises profusely but that won't give me back the 2 months I've been without the laptop.
So I go into the store and I have to pay $150 for the repair but just before I do that I ask if I can see the laptop. It's in a box and covered with bubble wrap. They unwrap it and it's got blue paint marks on the lid, so I say that's unsatisfactory and then I turn the laptop over, the hinge cover is still broken but now the case has also separated at the corner and the laptop is in significantly worse condition than when I gave it to them. I'm seething with rage and they're apologetic but it's not enough. I know it's not their fault. But I say if I wanted to break the laptop further I could go on the street and pay someone $150 to drop it on the ground or better yet I could just do it myself for free. The manager on at this time is very sweet and I feel confident she's going to help. She says they'll check it and either send it back to the repairer (The same repairer who had broken it further and sent it back in worse condition than when they got it) or maybe replace it.
I call up later that day and the guy who wouldn't give me a timeline a month ago says there's nothing wrong with the laptop and I can come and pick it up right now. I ask if I can speak to the manager I spoke to that morning and he says no she's in a meeting and doesn't know when she'll be out. She finally calls me back and says she also thinks the laptop is fixed and that I can pick it up or I can wait for it to be escalated the next day. I say if she thinks it's fixed I'll come and get it. So I go in and the guy who I realise has been the thorn in my side this whole process is there. He berates some poor sales assistant and tells me there's nothing wrong with it. But then when I have a look at it I can see it's still broken. This guy says "I'm not fucking dealing with this." and just storms off. Leaving the sales assistant without anyone to refer the job too. I say to her I'm not accepting it's repaired, I'll come back tomorrow and talk to a proper manager. All I ask is that they compare it to the stock they have on the floor.
Sure enough the next day the real manager (who is great) says the laptop is still broken and...

Read moreWent in to looking at the Microsoft Surface laptop and asked the nearest guy for assistance. The man was not too familiar with the full specs of the Microsoft Surface range and thus seemed assistance from a senior colleague named Alex. We got a brief run down on the difference and I told him we would think about it a bit more in which he responded to call him if we had any more requests. My mum who was with me, was also interested in purchasing a potential speaker (Bose) so we went to a differentsection of the store, in which another female employee with cool jeans came up to us asking if we needed help. She was really friendly and good with her customer service, giving her own personal experiences and being honest. We had also asked for further discounts for both the speaker/laptop as a deal in which she checked and confirmed she was able to give further discounts. As the Galeries store did not have the laptop in stock, she had phone the World Square to confirm stock. While she was on the phone with World Square, Alex walked towards her and claimed it was HIS sale as he serviced us first, however this was not the case as there was another man (mentioned at the start) who initiated conversation first. He rudely took over while she was still on the phone trying secure my laptop while she left disheartened. My mum and I felt this was unjust, inappropriate and immature behaviour in front a customer. So we went to the manager to notify we were unhappy with his actions and wanted to give our sale to the girl (as JB-HI-FI staff have KPIs and receive commission). The manager assured our sale would be allocated, however we do not know if his words would be actioned. Furthermore, while I was going through the final payment, Alex continued to pressure me into purchasing additional products (security & warranty) when I rejected the offer on multiple occasions telling him I have uni discounts and offers. As a sales person, he didn't understand price was a main factor (unlike the female salesperson) to my purchase. Only when I firmly told him I wasn't interested that he finally took me to the counter to pay. In conclusion, I understand retail is quite competitive among colleagues, however this was unprofessional and outright shocking. Props to the girl and the FIRST guy who helped us by...
