Update: I don’t want to call out any name but this time I have to. The staff named Pan was very rude and caused a very unpleasant experience for us. She brought a bowl of ramen to our table and we said we didn’t order it. At that point we got all of all food all over the table and we’re enjoying it already. It’s pretty obvious that we didn’t need anything more cause we got 2 sets and an entree already. However, this staff continues to pressure us to take that bowl of ramen and even though we repeatedly said we didn’t order it or even touched the ramen menu. At this point we were confused and uncomfortable already since we were just enjoying the meal and this staff keeps on accusing us of ordering that. Eventually she called the manager and it’s clear that the ipad system has some malfunctioning and the table next by did order that ramen. They just took the ramen away and gave it to another table. Later more food (that we didn’t order) come to our table and we told the staff to give it to the other table, no problem at all. I was hoping that that staff Pan or management would come to explain or apologize for the situation. But nope, nobody said anything. Seem like the management is aware of this ipad malfunction issue cause they know exactly where the other table that order the food is. I understand that at restaurants sometimes you mess up the orders but if the customers said they didn’t order it, you need to believe it. We’re fine if you mess up the orders but how the staff handle it was inhospitable and at to the rude line. Just imagine someone cut you off in the middle of eating and force you to take something that you didn’t order and you don’t want. The least you can do after that situation when everything is back to normal, not so busy running around is come back to our table and sorry for the confusion earlier. But nope, my expectation was too high. None of that happens. I don’t get disappointed here because of the food but the behavior of the staff. I don’t even expect Japan level of service but just be a decent human being and nice to other you know. * old review * Price went up again. Karaage set is now 19.90. Quality hasn’t changed. One thing is that a female staff attempted to take our food tray away when we still have the miso soup and just put our chopsticks down after finishing the rice. I don’t think there’s any reasons why you should take away the tray when the difference is just 5min.

A nice hidden top level Japanese restaurant that is cute and cozy and fits well into the theme. The staff here are lovely and welcoming, greeting and farewelling us in Japanese. We were seated quickly despite a practically full house at the time we went, and the food came probably about 15 minutes after placing the order. All orders were placed on the tablets as far as I know, as we were seated on a large table with pull out tablets. I had the karaage ramen, takoyaki, and a bit of the melon soda. My partner had a karaage don, takowasabi, and most of the melon drink. The karaage ramen came first as I placed it as soon as I saw it. I was really hungry and I knew what I was gang for. It was actually very nice and tasty, and a surprise too as I’m usually not a big fan of soy sauce broths. It came with 3 karaage chicken pieces, which were fairly sizeable, though I would always want more. The portion in general was larger than I thought as well, and I can confidently say it filled me up. However, I think I downed the food so quickly that I still felt hungry, because I was still keen to eat more. It was very very tasty though. The takoyaki was alright, it was approaching coldness from lukewarm by the time it arrived, but it still tasted as what you would expect. The melon soda was refreshingly tasty too, although, half the glass is actually ice and the glass itself is already quite slim, so I feel like it is quite a rip off. It’s still super tasty though! My partners karaage don was ok, the karaage was delicious as expected, but the rice tasted quite odd. It tasted a lot like vinegar, and appears that they may have over seasoned it. She still had most of it though, but it could have been better if it was just plain rice. Miso soup was nice, just the standard expected miso soup IMO. The tako wasabi was good with a generous serving, but the taste wasn’t all there. It was mainly a chilli like flavour and was somewhat bland. Overall a pretty decent place with fairly priced mains, and I would definitely come here again.

March 2025 - we come here every week sometimes more than once it’s our favourite restaurant and we’ve been eating here for probably 10 years or more. We love it. 7/6/23 Problem:- new waitresses should be trained to scan the tables when walking around - so I don’t have to wait for several to pass before one just happens to look in my direction so I can ask for a glass of water - that’s a failure of good service ! couple tips - if you want alcohol (beer, saki, umeshu, etc), I think that's after noon - licenced from midday - and if you want yakitori (grilled chicken on a stick) that starts from 530pm ? If you want something unique - try my favourite lemon ramen - I get it most every time! [Dec 2022] still good after 8 years or so we've been coming here - my standard is the unique lemon ramen I've never seen anywhere else - a little bitter edge from the skin of the lemon slices but it works for me - I've probably ordered it a hundred times ! [Nov 2021] post-COVID-lockdown still good and back to regular - but the volume the music is a bit too loud for me after 600 days of peace and quiet [Jan 2021] getting sick of the repeating loop music - enough Queen We are the Champions already! Time for something different please! [July 2020] new dish lemon ramen is tasty tangy - but for brunch ima ask for no chili [Edit] Relaunched 23 October 2018 !?!? I'ma goin' tomorrow! [Old] UPSTAIRS CLOSED FOR RENOVATION ! (next to Kinokuniya - closed since maybe July 2018 - sign says will reopen 'soon') - website says 'currently undergoing refurbishment till end of September' - https://ichibanboshi.com.au/ DOWNSTAIRS basement food court Express one more likely the subject of more recent reviews - you could try there but they told me they use chicken stock (weaker flavour than pork) and something else different (noodles weren't al dente chewy so not as satisfying

Dear Ichi-ban Boshi Team,

I am writing to express my disappointment regarding the service I received at your restaurant on June 21st, 2025, around 2:50 PM. I visited with my partner, and unfortunately, due to the behavior of one of your staff members (her name tag said “AMP”), we had one of the worst dining experiences we’ve ever had.

Although the restaurant had many available seats at the time, the staff member led us to a cramped single table in the corner. When I mentioned that the space looked too tight for two people, she didn’t respond at all. Instead, she silently and aggressively pulled at the chairs and table to make space, giving the impression that we had no choice but to sit there. It felt very dismissive and unwelcoming.

Later, when our ramen was served, she did not say a single word—no explanation of which dish it was, no greeting—just dropped the bowl on the table and walked away. This cold, careless attitude completely ruined the mood of our meal.

Previously, when I visited your restaurant, other staff members had explained the dishes politely and were much more welcoming. This time, it felt like we had done something wrong, even though we simply asked about seating.

If she had responded with a more understanding attitude—such as “Oh, would you prefer a different seat?” or “Let me make it more comfortable for you”—the situation would have been entirely different. Instead, her behavior made us feel uncomfortable, disrespected, and ignored.

For your reference, this occurred at the Ichi-ban Boshi branch located on Level 2, with the seating area positioned directly in front of the waiting queue. I strongly encourage your team to review the CCTV footage from that time to confirm our experience. We had ordered the Tantanmen and Tonkotsu Ramen.

No matter what serious or frustrating situation she may have been dealing with that day, it does not justify treating customers in such a rude and dismissive manner. If this job is too difficult or does not suit her, I sincerely suggest she consider pursuing a different role that is a better fit. A customer should never be made to feel like a burden for simply asking for a comfortable seat or expecting basic courtesy.

I truly hope your management team will provide her with appropriate service training, so that future guests can have a more welcoming and...
