accessibility:
i was very disappointed to find out when we arrived that the elevator was broken. we had called ahead and let them know that i am chronically ill and disabled and had asked for a chair, but we werent contacted in regards to the broken elevator. if we had been we would have rescheduled. its on the sixth floor and they flights of stairs were very long. i really struggled climbing them. i was also given a stool to sit on which wasnt high enough to see the screen so it made it more difficult to play, but by the time i had realised the game had already started. it would have been much easier to have a high chair. so if you are disabled/have mobility issues, i recommend calling the day of or the day before to make sure the elevator is working.
the game itself:
we had a lot of fun as a group but it was a lot different to what we expected. it was very much based around pop culture and not so much on knowledge (especially not academic knowledge). there were also a lot of jokers which made the game more interactive, however it transformed the game from being about knowledge to more being based on strategy and luck (which im sure some people prefer), so it would be nice to have the jokers be optional.
it would also be nice to have more optional specific categories, for example geography/history, art/literature, psychology, science.
the other thing that i noticed was that the options appeared on the screen one by one, therefore when someone was confident about the answer and guessed as soon as the answer popped up on the screen, then everyone else would know what they guessed and could copy them.
i loved the setup of the room, it felt alot like an official gameshow. overall it was a good experience but there was some things i would have changed if i could have about the game, but thats just my preference as someone whos knowledge is largely academic and in specific topics, and im also not very strategic. i think the way it is currently is good for children too and could make a very fun birthday party, but it would be nice to have a different categories for teens/adults.
flexibility:
they were very flexible with the booking and allowed us to change the time after we had booked. they also allowed us to add an extra player just the day before we had booked...
Read moreA group of 6 of us visited Quiz Room last week and had a great time. The questions were broad enough, no individual had a major advantage and the pacing was mostly great. Venue is clean and tidy with amenities and staff are friendly. Ali in particular was lovely and accomodating and helped make our experience even better.
My one critique is the OG/Music Quiz format when playing with a group of 6. The game is seperated into 3 major sections. The first section is a great way to start and gets people involved. The second and third section are a little different. In the 2nd section, only the first 3 correct answers can be submitted. This means in a group of 6, half your group is missing out on even answering. Typically some people are faster/more competitive than others so often the same people can miss out several rounds in a row. In the 3rd section, only the first correct answer is submitted, further exacerbating this issue. For us this let to some of my friends not answering 10+ questions in a row (skill issue I know).
A minor proposal to fix this would be allowing those players to make "ghost answers" to the questions - meaning they gain/lose 0 points (and it doesnt impact the scoring) but they still get the feeling of getting the question right or wrong and keep interacting with the game.
In a group of 4, this is less bad as only 1 person misses out in the...
Read moreWow what a fun day out! Playgroup NSW had our Christmas at the Quiz Room, and it was an awesome way to say goodbye to 2024. Wendy and her team were so accommodating throughout the entire booking process.
We had an issue with the catering, and Wendy's support in finding a solution was over and beyond a level of service I've ever experienced.
My only feedback would be around aesthetic's and more clarification about how the music round works.
If you want a fun day out for team building or parties, you must put the Quiz Room at the top...
