There is NO Break it You Buy it LAW in CANADA!! ...

Out for a Sunday stroll in beautiful Lakefield and came across this quaint store. Quite nice with lovely trinkets and some pretty cool stuff from the UK. My wife had a piece of glass slip from her hands and landed on another piece of glass that shattered. The item "a $13 priced piece of glass" Naturally my wife apologized and the store attendant who I am reluctant to assume was the owner, but because of the British Accent, I am going to hedge a bet was the shop owner said "it's okay, don't worry about it, are you okay"...I thought her demeanor was as lovely as the shop!

However, without even uttering a word about the breakage my wife was charged for half of the sticker price of what she broke. There is NO VISIBLE SIGN regarding this policy "even though it is unlawful" it really left a sour taste in our mouth. It isn't the $6.50 that she was charged, it was the principle that it was NEVER mentioned. Plain and simple, it was WRONG and there are plenty of provisions as a business owners when "we" (yes I said we ...aka a Business Owner) encounter a loss. We either claim it under insurance (obviously based on the amount) or we write it off as a loss on our tax.

Poor practice and definitely not good etiquette! We are profoundly sorry for breaking the piece of glass, it's embarrassing enough to have done so and we would have gladly (more than happy) to have paid a replacement cost...But by golly....All you had to do was say something! Oh well...I guess we will chalk it up and...

We visited yesterday for the first time, and it is my new favourite store! Can’t wait to go back and spend an hour in there! Thank you for all of the unique finds - going to come back to buy a ton of gifts! And thank you for your amazing play area in your Stuff’d Bakery/Cafe! It is clear that you are smart and friendly owners who know your customers! My daughter is a sweet fiend and she was so distracted by the play area that she had me eat her ice cream. Lol. I will highly recommend you and can’t wait...

We absolutely love this shop. Beautiful pieces, artwork , novelty items. We have bought several pictures and the owner is so helpful and can't do enough for you!! So nice to shop and have fun as well....
