My husband and I dined at Cassis Bistro for the first time, and we enjoyed our time together. The environment felt inviting, Rob (server) was very professional and attentive, and we thought the menu was wonderful. My husband started with the poached pear salad, which he really enjoyed. We were given a basket of complimentary warm baguette slices- but the butter was frozen solid, as the staff forgot to take them out to thaw. My husband ordered the salmon, which had an orange ginger glaze on it. It was delicious! I ordered the New York Striploin Steak, and asked for it to be medium-well cooked. When I received my steak, I cut into it to find the inside was very red/purple. Rob took it back to the chef to grill longer, and brought it back well-done about 5 minutes later. I took my first bite and it tasted like a dirty grill. There was no appetizing flavour to the meat, and the Bourbon sauce that came on the side didn't help- although it was very good. I ordered the night's special of Rainbow Trout Almondine instead, only to learn that the chef had "misplaced" the almonds and could not find them anywhere. He subsituted that dish for Lemon Butter Rainbow Trout. I enjoyed the fish, it was cooked very nicely- although very strong lemon flavour. Rob offered my husband and I each a complimentary dessert, which was very kind. We enjoyed the New York Cheesecake and the profiteroles. Rob also gave us a free drink voucher for our next visit. All in all, we really enjoyed the atmosphere, the customer service that Rob provided, and most of the food. The chef seemed to be having an off/disorganized night, so hopefully the next time we go, that's not the case.

Read moreWhat a little bijoux in Lakefield. Arrived for an early dinner. It was the PAL menu which offered two excellent selection for appetizer, entree and dessert for $25. The tomato and red pepper soup was flavourful, with a bit of a kick. I had also the stuffed chicken breast with goat cheese. Other dining guests had the pork tenderloin which was very good as well. Portions were on the smaller side in my opinion but otherwise delicious. For growing teenaged boys, larger portions are a must. The wild berry sherbet was tart and refreshing. It’s best to call ahead and secure a table. We weren’t aware of the PAL menu at the time but it really wasn’t a disappointment. The place is cozy and the service attentive....
