I don't usually leave scathing reviews but BOY did my experience here irk me. I used to come here several times a week as it's the only coffee shop in Lakefield that isn't Tim's. There are a lot of problems with this place, particularly that they don't understand their own menu--a wrap with beans and eggs is absolutely not "huevos rancheros," it's a breakfast burrito, eggs "benedict" must be served with hollandaise sauce (made of egg yolks, butter, and lemon juice), not a random gross dill cream sauce, and an iced "latte" means you brew fresh espresso and pour it over milk and ice, not grab a pitcher of iced coffee from the fridge and dilute it with milk (that's an iced coffee, and it shouldn't cost double the iced coffee price when it's literally the same drink!). This is a general small town culinary issue, and places in the area can get away with lazy food prep and mislabeling because there are not many alternate options, so I understand. I would still enjoy coming in to get some work done and have lunch while watching traffic go by on Queen Street--the location is fantastic. However, on my last visit the owner was so unforgivably rude that I will never go back here to spend another dime and I'll be sure to tell all my friends and family to stay well clear. There are few tables, as others have noted, and when I came in it was full, so I told the owner I'd hang out and wait before ordering so that I'd have a place to sit. She basically told me that I wasn't welcome to linger there because they were busy, acting like it was a problem that I am regularly spending my time and money in the shop. I couldn't believe it. I understand there is limited seating, but I am generally conscious of space and have never seen customers turned away because I was sitting at a tiny two-person table. Further, I've spent hundreds of hours working in coffee shops all over the world, always paying for the time by purchasing multiple items and tipping well, and I have NEVER had a shop owner tell me I was unwelcome in their cafe. In fact, I have never had anything but pleasant interactions with owners. The craziest thing is that she thought I would hang around and still place an order after she told me I could "be there sometimes" but was not welcome other times LOL. Guess what, you don't get to be rude to a regular customer and then still get their business, it doesn't work like that. I spent hundreds of dollars there and would have considered myself a regular, but from now on I'll take that money and give it to a Peterborough coffee place that has real food, kind staff, and good customer service. Because if the food sucks, the coffee is bitter and not made right, and the staff are rude, why visit? Hope you enjoyed my $$, because you'll never...
Read moreNot knowing what to expect being a first time customer. Very Very Impressed with the care the team took when food preparing . I was at a position to see all that was happening in the kitchen . First I was impressed with the staff washing their hands more than once . Second there was a young woman making sandwiches and a young gentleman over her reaching down helping her out .. it was neat to see because he was tall and was able to assist her in making the sandwiches. Very good food .. We share our food and both my husband and I loved the bacon lettuce and tomato sandwich and the crunch of the bread .. This restaurant is really great .. they have seating for outside and in ... it was a lovely day and people were able to sit outside .. Thank You Nutty Bean Cafe for a Lovely First Time Visit .. when we are in town we will be coming...
Read moreWas in the area and it looked inviting outside, so popped in. The service is excellent, staff are excellent, and the vibe is excellent. The food was not. Got the "Eggs Benny", but it just was not. It was: a runny egg (which was perfectly done), smoked salmon, on cream cheese, on a bagel, and came with a white sauce. This really shouldn't be called a Benny without the English Muffin, and especially without Hollandaise Sauce, thus the low review. If it was called what it was, which is: "smoked salmon with cream cheese on a bagel, topped with a poached egg", I wouldn't have a problem with it. But to call it an Eggs Benny is unfortunately preposterous. If I were back, I'd try something else on the menu in order to be fair... I suspect the other dishes are good. All that being said: the staff, service, and vibe are truly...
