When I first called in, the stylist I wanted was not available and they directed to me to the downtown location, where someone specializes in Japanese straightening.
My appointment was at 10:30am, I arrived 5 mins late and had to grab the keys to park underground. Sat in the chair at 10:45am and didn’t begin washing until 11:30am, because she didn’t understand my reference photo for a cut.
I originally booked a Japanese straightening, then changed it to digital perm. The stylist told me that digital perms only work on Japanese hair, so I went with the Japanese straightening.
My appointment details that state, the Japanese straightening and hair cut would be 4 1/2 hours and then the nano moisture premium 1 hour - that is a total of 5 1/2 hours…….yet I was walking to my car at 4:15pm.
When they did the Japanese straightening, they said my ends would just ding and near the end when they were cutting, it was so uneven. I asked them to fix it, and they said thats not what you first said, next time we can fix it, I have an app at 4:15pm. I was blown away and didn’t say anything because they had scissor next to my head. I was not told any post treatments and even when asking, didn’t get much answers. I had researched for over 8 months and thought they were the best.
I was upset after, and when I reached out to have at least the cut fixed, I was told it had to be at the downtown location, when I asked for the Richmond one. I did not want to go back in, I felt very uncomfortable as I trusted them for their expertise and paid $500, for bad service.
When I went in, the stylist stood at the back and the person I originally wanted, asked what I wanted done. Which was not anymore treatments, I was hoping they’d say the nano treatment. But it became uncomfortable because I said I wanted it shorter and was told any changes would have to be paid for. So I agreed to just the cut to even it out, they said only about an inch. When they cut my hair, it felt like magical art. They ended up taking so much off, due to how terrible the cut was.
I am editing and rewriting this review for the truth. I did not want to have to write this, but I don’t want my review to negatively impact anyone else.
My hair was naturally curly, always let natural dry, straightened maybe twice a year and my hair was down to my waste, healthy, “virgin” hair.
I wish this was a positive review, as the stylist who fixed the cut, is beyond incredible and I’d always want them to touch my hair, but only them. And I was hoping I could go back to the person who fixed it, but since the fixing experience was just as uncomfortable as the appointment - I will not go back.
The cut of my bangs were so bad, they couldn’t even be fixed just have to let them grow out.
I did not take a photo right after the fixing app, but I also had to fix/cut my bangs, but I did not wear them down because they are all out of wack. I am just leaving it and waiting until I can afford to go get it correctly fixed at a...
Read moreI came here for a haircut with Yuko and she and the salon are amazing! I had an amazing experience.
Hair washing: The salon used extra towels to ensure that when you’re washing your hair, you don’t get wet. They also used products that made my hair stay soft and silky!
Hair cutting: I am someone who is paranoid with my hair so I was nervous going to a new salon with a new stylist, but Yuko was amazing! I showed her pictures and she did exactly what I wanted! She asked clarifying questions to make sure she did exactly what I wanted. I also cut my own bangs (I know, not the best idea LOL) but Yuko fixed them up and they looked so cute! Her technique was impressive and she was so friendly and nice.
Hair styling: This one was unexpected, but she styled my hair as well! The last salon I went to, didn’t use heat products, only a hair dryer and round brush, but Yuko actually straightened my hair so that I could see the layering she did and the V cut. When I asked her to give me more of a V shape, she did so happily and it looked amazing!
Overall, 10/10 experience. Alpha D and Yuko have a...
Read moreWas looking for a nice Japanese salon during my business trip in Vancouver and Alpha D happened to have an open slot later on the day so I booked it. Shoko was my hair stylist, she listened to me carefully for the style I wish to have, even I showed her the photo of the style I had years ago. First, she took my jacket and put it in a plastic bag so it would not get any hair on it, the shampoo my hair very nicely, asked about the temperature and the strength, and just like any other Japanese salon, she covered my eyes with a eye shade so water can not splash into my eyes. During the cut, we chatted somewhat, Shoko is talkative but also stay professional as the mean time. She constantly asked my opinion during the cut and after. I was very satisfied with the service on how she treated me and everything else. Price us very reasonable in my opinion, I used to pay between $90 to $120 on NYC and $55-75 in California. At Alpha D I only paid $36 USD and the result was the same as other previous stylists'. I highly recommend Alpha D and Shoko. Will definitely stop by again next time while...
