This is an example of how just One Weak Link can detriment an entire team.
Here's what happened....
On a rare occasion I will mention names only for the purposes of management to be aware. Names provided on their website.
Sitting in my styling chair and having Kim take care of me, I was actually quite impressed. Not only was she a delight to deal with but she's an absolute expert at what she does...I received exactly what I was looking for.
I was really enjoying myself...the energy, the vibe and knowing I was in good hands with Kim who was cutting my hair for the first time. I was in this Zen place thinking to myself in my chair ....finally I found my salon. ........................Until
At the end, as I was checking out.....Luna charged me $120. I reminded her that actually Kim's fee for a woman's cut on the website is $100. She mentioned that this is the minimum and that it can increase based on the length of hair, quality of hair...and this and that....which is funny because they call you before the appointment and ask you all that stuff, but don't mention any price increase, until you have to pay....lol I asked her again and she said, the website is not accurate... wow...ok....
Anyhoo, I did find it a little disingenuous especially considering that Kim my stylist mentioned it was easy to cut my hair because of how healthy it is...so why the extra charge then?..... Anyway, moving on....Kim gave me a great cut and she's worth every dollar.
What really pissed me off was something else.....
I was paying cash, and as I handed Luna my bills she asked would you like change back? I said yes. Twice she asked me and then gave me this look like you're not leaving a tip?! She asked me again, you want ALL of it back?...Yes, I said....As I wanted to manage the tip situation with Kim herself upon a little chat before heading out.
What made this even worse was, as Luna was giving me back my change...she dropped every single nickel, dime and Loonie on the desk. Before giving me ....this judgemental look.
Every single minute of that enjoyable experience in that salon before checkout crashed and burned. Ok....I'll tell you....it wasn't even the money. I felt judged.
I did speak with Kim afterwards outside only to be fair, as I wanted her to know, because she is a great stylist. However, it is exactly due to people like the front desk girl Luna cashing me out that I will not return here. I'm sad to say.
Hair salons are like any other businesses. Reception is everything. The first thing the customers experiences and the last thing the customer leaves with...either brings them back or not.
Interestingly, Upon arrival, the front girl was someone else and her energy and service matched an upscale environment, professional and courteous. Pity for them she wasn't the one at the front as I was leaving.
If you are the reception for the evening, it is not your business how much tip clients leave or choose not to leave. It is however, your business to problem solve which she didn't do. At all. "The website is not accurate" is all she gave me with a blank stare. She didn't even attempt to ask or consult my stylist about the fee confusion, or to ask management to look into the matter and honor what could have simply been an honest misunderstanding.
She just dropped my change as you would throw a street performer without a second thought, as to customer satisfaction or your own professional responsibility to the salon and its owner.
If it weren't for Kim's great cut they'd...
Read moreI've struggled to find a salon i love and trust in vancouver--i loved my last haircut/colour, but got it abroad. after procrastinating for months because i didnt want to change the great cut i had, I finally decided to try Citrus.
because of my schedule, I couldnt get my cut and colour at the same time, so i got the haircut first with one stylist, then came back the next day for the colour with Jeremy.
from the minute you walk in, everyone here is SO nice, and they have coffee/tea/cookies/snacks complimentary which was really nice. the first stylist that cut my hair was also super nice... unfortunately, once I got home and took a good look at the cut, i discovered it was not the cut i wanted... the cut I wanted was pretty straightforward, and above all else i said no layers. well... i got given layers. i was so disappointed. i really didnt like the cut, and the shortness of the layers meant the time id waited for my hair to grow longer was pretty much wasted :/.
BUT... and this is a huge BUT. I went back the next day for the colour, apprehensive, and man oh man jeremy was GREAT. I explained my feelings about the cut, and he talked me through my options and gave me some advice about what to do next. it was clear he understood what id wanted from the cut. then, he NAILED my colour. For the last couple years ive been trying to describe the tone of blonde I wanted with only intermittent success... he got it right 100% and gave me the exact colour and tone ive been searching for for years. I was so so happy.
Then, he talked to the salon owner, Antonella, and explained how I felt about my haircut. She was so kind and understanding and refunded me the cost of my haircut which was just so above and beyond to me, it meant alot. And she said if I ended up wanting to alter the cut once id had time to see how it settled out (as me and jeremy had discussed) that adjustment would be complimentary as well. Neither she nor jeremy made me feel like I was being difficult or ridiculous and its clear everyone there, and especially the owner, just want you to be happy and love your hair. Their attitude was so appreciated, and because of that, I will definitely be coming back to Jeremy and Citrus in the future. Not every cut is going to be perfect every time, its about how you handle it when it doesnt go quite right, and citrus really nailed it.
To be clear, my first stylist was an absolute doll--i think it was just one of those times when the stars didnt align and the cut just didnt turn out as i'd hoped.
thank you to Antonella for everything, and to jeremy for listening and then being such a colour wizard! will definitely be seeing...
Read moreHad a dry haircut with Amanda on April 9th and after 2 months of wearing a ponytail every single day, I still have to wear a ponytail every single day.
My hair is very long, reaching the low of my back. I asked to break up bulkiness, just add long layers along the side and some long texturing in the layers just to add movement.
She asked to perform a dry cut which made total sense so she can see the layers better. But she cut the layers around the crown / top of my head / around my face, so short, that I literally have a mullet. Hard to show how short even in the videos because my hair is dark. And she cut the layers so differently that itâs like I have two different haircuts, on the top half and on the bottom half.
I cannot wear my hair loose because the top mushrooms while the lower half is long and appears almost detached from the top. The top layers have still not reached my chin.
I donât understand why she cut it so short and why all around my crown. I even showed her photos of what I was hoping to achieve.
Worse haircut. Wanted to like it because Amanda was sweet and we had a fun chat. But this cut is the absolute worse.
Pony tail for two months straight, going on 3 and likely for 4 & maybe 5 months.
UPDATE - June 2024 I finally left a review of my experience with the studio and on Google after 2mths of quiet frustration and they were very kind and understanding to the situation.
They were prompt in refunding the haircut without me asking for it and offered a complimentary haircut with a more experienced stylist.
Wonât make up for the amount of time it will take to grow the hair to even my mid-back but the response was appreciated.
UPDATE - August 2024 It is possible to get a haircut the way you actually want - thank you so much Eirereann đđź She wasnât able to grow the hair Amanda overcut but she did a fantastic job shaping overall, creating more volume and blending. Itâs really great. Thank.you.
I still have to wear ponytails for a few months more but it will grow out perfectly.
Itâs stunning that two level 5s in one salon possess such disparate levels of skill. I canât help but think Amanda did this on purpose. Eireann was also baffled on how the top layers were so heavy and mushroomed on top.
Amanda recognized me at the salon but did not apologize nor even acknowledge me but smirked walking by. Her demonstration of character and professionalism is as I expected from her kind.
She lowers this salon.
Be warned that a âbubbly personalityâ does not equal skill nor...
