Waited 15 minutes for a slice of cheesecake that costed $9…I just wanted a slice of cheesecake and go...
Just completed my first week at my new job, thought I’d celebrate by going out for cheesecake at this place since the tiramisu one was great when I had it. When I entered, seatings were almost full; no lineups aside from just one person in the process of ordering.
Ordered my oreo cheesecake, sat down.
5 minutes later, drinks are being made/called out. Few customers entered the cafe. —My thoughts “It’s pretty warm in here.”
10 minutes later, customers that entered later than me got their drinks made, sat down and started drinking. Couple customers entered the cafe. —My thoughts “Man, it’s taking a while…oh, it’s been 10 minutes since I ordered, they must be busy back there… looks over…hm...”
13 minutes later, the first customer that entered at the 10 minutes mark got their drink and left. I got up, walked over to the counter to check in to see if the oreo cheesecake was made. It was not made. Luckily, one of the staff noticed the bill, talked to the cashier that took my order. The one that noticed the bill, started plating my order, it only took her less than two minutes. Long and behold! A square plate with a single drizzle, 3 whipped cream rosettes, and of course a small slice of oreo cheesecake that was from a leftover pile! Yeah that’s right, I watched where you grabbed it from! (Usually that doesn’t bother me, but if I waited this long; at least have the decency of giving me a fresh one!). —My thoughts “Oh good, they’re finally making it! Okay, so she forgot, no big deal. staff grabs the leftover cheesecake uh…maybe she’ll give me a big piece or plate it very nicely? cheesecake obtained with the staff grumbled “thank you for waiting.” Me with a deadpan smile I waited 15 minutes for this?…”
I don’t know if it’s because I didn’t tip, but like I just wanted my cheesecake. You guys aren’t providing me table service or anything special nor a warm greeting. Is this a form of retaliation for me being a cheapskate?
Plus the oreo cheesecake was alright (5/10), though it costed $9…
Thanks for eventually giving me my cheesecake that could’ve been plated in less than 2 minutes. If any later, then I would’ve cancelled my order and...
Read moreWe just went there today.we used to go to these place at least 3-4 time a week and mostly we visit around 8-9 or 8ish until closing but today it was our first to experience this.First, the training staff who took our order insisted a to go cup and we ordered with the cup as to dine as it was just 9pm then at around 9:25 one staff started vacuuming the place without any heads up.First, I have allergy with the dust and vacuum was really loud.Customers were around more than 10 and some a few still ordering because it’s just 9:30.All of us the customers was looking to each other.after 2 minutes I can’t handle the dust coming from the vacuum and the noise. so ,we decided to leave and some other customer started to leave as well.I myself decided to speak to the staff vacuuming that doing the vacuuming while there are still customers is disrespectful and besides I have allergy to dust that’s what I said but she just ignored me and continued with her vacuuming.I guess they are in hurry to go home as I the first place they appeared to be offering with all the customers coming in a to go cup instead of a regular dine in cup.Probably too much work for them as it was already 9pm near closing to prepare the coffee in a dine in cup as they still have to decorate the coffee and wash the cup. It’s kind a disappointing that my fave place has kind have a team on that shift that has very bad service.I ordered lacto free coffee my first 2nd time to order as my husband has lactose intolerance but without anything said she charged me $1.90 for the soy added.Starbucks has no charge for lacto free! She should have mentioned the extra fee for a lacto free coffee instead as I have remembered with my husband to first order the lacto free before it was free. Its just disappointing service and group of team who’s on shift tonight at these Trees location.Me and my daughter’s exploring all the branches of Trees and our fave in replacement of Starbucks and...
Read moreThe staff seem super unhappy. The atmosphere is like a dentists office. Like they’re preparing customers for teeth drilling. Seems like a strict place to work — like there’s a lot of rules. The music is always the same Ed Sheeran vibe. Take a cool and laid back hipster coffee bar and completely reverse it and you get Trees.
The coffee is also bland and inconsistent. I stick to espresso drinks because they’re more consistent. The baked goods (muffins, etc) are essentially what you might find in a gas station — just twice as expensive. The cheese cake looks good but it’s pricey as well.
It’s got a really unfriendly vibe — for example — we live nearby and my partner once went down the road to get a cup of ice because we ran out. The lady was very passive aggressive and told her she couldn’t have a cup of ice until she bought something. So she went across the street to A&W and the staff were super friendly and gave her a cup of ice.
It’s pretty ironic because my partner works in management for the most successful coffee chain in Vancouver and she gives out ice on the regular — and with a smile. That’s how you get repeat customers, right? With friendly service? A bit of generosity? And not by counting every penny and being cheap? Well my partner is angry at the pettiness of the shop and refuses to go there now.
I’ve had a handful of similarly snarky and rude experiences with staff here as well.
They are extremely fortunate that Joyce has no coffee shops anywhere around here. People who want to go to a cafe locally have no other choice. Well, other than Jack’s Place — which is the friendly laid back hipster cafe I mentioned earlier. With fresh baked goods that are delicious. And not a greedy...
