Food was fresh but lacked flavour. I ordered a veggie noodle soup as I’m a vegetarian and the only flavour was from the Thai basil and broccoli. My partner said his beef pho tasted really good. Server was friendly but sat at another table on his phone most of the time, and another server was just eating rice and something else in the corner window seat when we came in, and only got up when maybe 6 people over 3 tables had trickled in. Before our food, I went to the washroom to wash my hands as we had been at the dog park, and it was filthy. Tile stained about 6” up the wall, floor filthy, even the soap dispenser was gross on the top where you touch it. Toilet and sink were about the only things that actually didn’t look filthy. The washroom was also a storage room for huge bottles of extra soap, and a storage filing cabinet was in there as well. The door was filthy and scuffed and needed repainting 5 years ago so you could at least wipe it down without the particle board swelling. I doubt they’ve ever wiped it down. Upon closer inspection, I saw mouse droppings in every corner of the floor. This made me feel grossed out to go eat a meal, let alone be in that bathroom any longer. Unfortunately my partner had already begun eating when I came back to the table and I didn’t want to ruin his meal. The food looked fresh so I ate my very bland soup. My partner noticed a shift when I had come back from the washroom. I said I’d tell him later, not wanting to ruin his meal. Then a table with two guys and two girls had sat beside us for a few minutes and suddenly my partner and the two guys looked at each other and chatted to confirm something, and when they all quietly agreed that they had seen a mouse, my partner turned to me and I said mhm, that’s what I was going to say. The guys didn’t want their female friends to know so they didn’t draw attention to it but I guess it had crawled under the X table base of our table which was disgusting as I was wearing sandals on my feet with bare feet. I spent the rest of our time there with my feet in the air and then said we should get the bill to go get our dog from the car. $50 for this less than lovely experience. Place should be closed for renovations and a thorough professional deep cleaning as well as pest control. You can’t fix pests without serious work. My partner and I recently had mice in our apartment and it took 3 months of being extremely diligent about cleanliness, zero food being around, storing everything in hard plastic bins. I don’t know how a restaurant could honestly ever get rid of rodents if they have food everywhere all the time. They need to close to deal with this. It was BAD. I have reported to VCH and will be...
Read moreMy coworker and I came here for lunch. It was our first time here. We were lucky to get a table for two at the moment we walked into the restaurant. That was awesome without waiting during work hours.
Customer service was great. Servers were friendly and took care of all customers’ needs including ours. They got our orders correctly as well. We didn’t have to wait for the food for too long. It came out right away. That was awesome especially for those who needed to eat quickly and rushed back to work.
I only gave 3 stars because of the food quality. We ordered #53 and #61. #53 was grilled lemongrass chicken with steamed rice. #61 was grilled pork and spring roll with vermicelli. The lemongrass chicken was fully cooked but it was soft and soaked. It did not look like it was grilled or pan fried type of meat. The grilled pork was okay. It was a little bit better than the grilled chicken. The vermicelli was very soft that was over cooked. The interesting thing was that the chef or server had already mixed the fish sauce with the vermicelli. I didn’t expect that. I usually liked to mix the fish square myself because I could add the quantity that I wanted. These two dishes came with some veggies. Some sliced cucumbers were mixed with other veggies. They were chunks that did not sliced properly. We liked the spring roll though. The flavour and colour were very unique that we did not normally see this type of spring roll at other pho restaurants.
Overall, the meal was quick. That’s what we thought “express” means. At least we could fill our stomach quickly and go back to work as soon as possible. The pricing was reasonable especially in this neighbourhood. The restaurant was packed with tables and chairs. It was not a great experience eating here. It was not quite comfortable when we were sitting too close to other people that we did not know. We could hear their...
Read moreThe cash-only policy at this restaurant always made it too much of a nuisance to try it before, but I finally had some cash on me so I decided to try it out.
When I walked in the first thing I noticed was it was not air conditioned well, it was uncomfortably warm. Also it was pretty dirty, a lot of old food on the floors. They wiped down my table, but all it did was smear some mystery sauce all over one side, I sat on the other side.
Now I don't want people to think I am being unfair about the cleanliness, so I even took a photo of the sill beside my chair as proof. Notice the food all over it... even like a chicken nugget sized meat chunk. It was seriously grossing me out the entire time. It was like this all over the restaurant.
The menu was another red flag... prices had been covered with new ones using scotch tape. It was done so poorly I could use my fingernail to look under them and see how much they increased the price... about 10 percent on average. The prices here are also not competitive, most nearby places offer better value for your dollar.
I was hoping the food itself would redeem this restaurant, I ordered the lemon grass chicken. Now, I've been to a lot of places that serve similar dishes... but never in my life have I ever had what looked like a hamburger patty of chicken served to me. I had to cut it apart even, it was so bizarre. It was also so soaked with grease it was barely edible. I took maybe 3 bites and I felt sick to my stomach.
Typically in Vancouver restaurants need to be pretty good to survive. I am confused how this place survives here. Literally the worst place I've eaten in Vancouver so far. really disappointed with my experience there and I recommend...
