Staff don’t know the COVID capacity of their own shop.
As we walked into the shop, we had to pass the person working there. We said hi. There were two other people in the store. We went into the line, 2m behind the other pair. Then a group of 3 (one parent, 2 ~8-10 year old kids) came in right on our heels. The waiting area is maybe 10' x 15'.
We asked them to step back and give us space, so they decided to stand by the door. Then a guy comes in, bypasses them, and stands RIGHT beside my boyfriend. My boyfriend asks him to give him space, so the guy joins the family of 3.
The pair in front of us leave. We step up (the group is still blocking the door) and I ask the staff what the capacity of the store is. She answers "we close in 10 minutes." Okay, fine, maybe she didn't hear properly.
"How many people are allowed to be in here because of COVID?"
Looks confused, turns to co-worker.
Co-worker doesn't seem to know either.
"I think 3."
"Well, you have way more than 3 people in here"
"... what can I get you?"
We left.
Clearly the idiots behind us seem to live on an alien planet and don't care about others, and clearly the management and the staff at this shop don't bother to know what their legal safety requirements.
Compare that to the super clear, super easy to follow procedures at the Ernest, just a couple blocks away. Ditch the bbt, opt for the hot fudge sundae at...
Read moreThere are a few bubble tea shops that I frequent in the city because the core centre of their bubble tea pearls is cooked through to softness.
This shops’ pearls softness varied too widely in my personal experiences.
At some point, I went back to replace my pearls which seemed too chewy almost not fully cooked at their core. At another point, I threw away my bubble tea once home cause of the same problem and I didn’t want to go back, and recently, my pearls were too chewy for my liking so I’ve decided to just reboil the pearls at home to guarantee myself soft pearls.
I keep going back over the years, every now and then, because of convenience but 99% of my bubble tea spending is spent else where and I would happily spend it here if the pearls were cooked through to softness or at least in that range of softness. To be fair, I also had scenarios at this store where the pearls were good, and perhaps once or twice where I had perfect pearl softness throughout, but it’s super rare and varies too widely.
I would give zero stars for some of my experiences and I would give five stars for the great ones. I’m putting 4 stars to support a local business, I wish you put more attention on the cooking of the bubble tea pearls, like other tea shops in the city, I would absolutely be more of a happy...
Read moreOrdered the mango supreme and Macha bubble waffle. My order is ready within 6min and I see the 3 people behind me all got their orders within 10min. My mango smoothie however is a bit too thick that I could not drink it with a straw, I had to wait for it to melt so there's more liquid to drink. Bubble waffle taste fine, but could be puffier - it's a bit flat looking, otherwise all good. The store is a bit cluttered looking with cabinets of toys to sell. They would do better if they put in more tables for seating in these area to capitalize on the desserts they offer. The menu is extensive, with real fruit not powder. I would be back often if the tapioca is...
