Gauntlet Games — Local services in Victoria

I would love to give this store a higher ranking, but cannot at this time.

Let me explain. Their selection is good and they have created a nice atmosphere for playing and are welcoming to newcomers.

Here the issue. Twice now their sales rep Taylor has made very strange comments about me playing MTG as a woman and comparing me to his gf who also plays (very sick, bro). When asked if I at one point could ask to speak to his supervisor (who was currently on break so I was happy to wait and browse) and he gave me a flat no. This was after I dropped over 200.00 in the store. I don't find this acceptable and I won't return of he's working again. To be honest I'm shocked at the amount of times he answered "I don't know" and just stared at me like it wasn't his job to know. He also had to be yelled at to come to the front to assist customers.

Let me be clear, dealing with the owner was great, his customer service was good and honestly if I hadn't talked to him I may never have returned.

I'll continue to patron this store fpr now but I am unimpressed by how I was treated by sales staff for, from what I can tell, was strictly my gender and in no way any actual knowledge, thought anyone should be welcome anyways. This is why women...

2024 update: I want to revisit this review and reiterate the overall theme: this is a fantastic game store, and certainly my favourite on the Island. These guys are dedicated and serious about gaming, and always treat you with respect and genuine interest. I'm not a "regular" but have been shopping here for years. They do great preorders, their prices are excellent. There is literally ZERO reason to buy online when you can support this great local business and have such superb customer service doing it. Go here. Get some advice on boardgames. Check out some D&D (or adjacent RPGs they have a great selection), paint some minis, trade some MTG cards. This is just a great store.

This is the place for getting The Army Painter and Citadel paints! I haven't found anywhere else with this good a selection for the price they offer. You can also find a decent selection of Green Stuff World resin-printed models and a good selection of gaming dice that are affordable. I love dropping in to browse paints and modelling items, and the staff seem friendly enough to understand my odd back and forth decision-making and investigation of products, and have given me some tips about which paints are the best to use out of their selection.
