Hiro Sushi Xpress — Restaurant in Victoria

went today for some simple veg rolls. the cashier was all around rude and did not seem to know what they had or didn’t have. kept having to go to the back to check the stock of items. i tried ordering the veggie rolls with agadashi tofu, she looked very confused and checked with the chef, who also seemed confused. it was on the menu, but apparently they did not have any tofu. fine. i try to order the veggie gyozas instead. she has to go back and check. they have them luckily. i say ill take that then, and she tries to ring me through for just the gyozas. i had wanted the veggie rolls aswell, she has to go back and it turns out they are out of the veggie rolls. so i end up having to just get avocado rolls, veggie gyozas and my friend got the yam tempura rolls. we ordered to dine in, but got take away boxes. good lord. the yam tempura is rotten and black. the pink pickled ginger stinks of mold (i didn’t even know that was possible), and the veggie gyozas taste freezer burnt. all around a terrible experience that left a very bad taste...

Cute sit-down restaurant so I thought the food would be a step up from the usual food court vendors. Boy was I wrong! I had the chicken bento box. The tempura was not crisp, indicating the oil wasn’t hot enough, the chicken was rubbery, the teriyaki sauce was bland and the salad was subpar. My companion had the sushi bento and had the same experience and his cali rolls were dry and crunchy, obviously not fresh. The service was slow despite it being lunchtime and no other customers were there. The prices were a little above average, but too much for what we received. The only positive I can say is the lady working the cash register was friendly and kind. Will give this resto a pass next time we are...

I ordered the salmon combo yesterday and I was very disappointed with the service and food presentation. When I came in the counter person was nice and welcoming however they seem to lack knowledge on their own menu. It wasn’t even a lunch hour rush and there was only one other person there. This combo took them 10 minutes to prepare and serve. I’m not usually picky on sushi but this was so disappointing. I couldn’t finish it because the rice was too soggy and overcooked, they didn’t put any seasoning. The salmon was also mushy. For $17 it was not worth the price.

I saw that they also served Filipino food so I might order that next time. I’m not sure if there will be a next time though considering...
