The supermarket is nice for a small trip, BUT BEWARE of the pharmacy (Farmacia Carol) in the center!!
The trip from the Bavaro hotel complex is only 50 pesos on the public bus that drives along the street and stops every where to take you with it. The return bus stop is directly in front of the Jumbo...also 50 pesos. Prices in the Supermarket are cheaper than near the hotels.
But beware of the pharmacy: I bought 2 creams here as a tourist on September 30th. These creams were also available in the same dosage in the hotel for $10, which was a bit expensive. In this pharmacy I got an even more expensive cream. There are many brands with the same dosage (1%), but the pharmacy offered me the most expensive one for $12 per tube. According to the motto: "The stupid tourists have money". But whatever...I didn't have to buy them. About the fraud: After I received the tubes, I wanted to pay with my credit card. After I gave the card, the monitor turned white and it looked like the computer crashed. The saleswoman, Ms. St. O., took another device that showed no WiFi connection. I paid than the $24 in cash and Ms. Stephany Ol. assured me that the online payment had not been made and would not be made. I trusted her, but when I got home, I saw that the “Farmacia Carol” had charged my credit card for another 1,368.20 pesos. I thought it was not intentional and wrote to the pharmacy 3 times. At the main email address and directly at the downtown branch. There was no response, so I assume it was intentional. Maybe the cashier was allowed to keep the Money what was more in the Cashier and a $24 Tip is not a small amount, but I don't know. The fact is that the Farmacia billed me twice and did not respond. Now we have the Middle of November and still no Reaction from the Pharmacy. I call this fraud and it's a reason to avoid the Dominican Republic when people in public pharmacies aren't even honest. I also have to note that the QR code on the bill doesn't work for me, so I assume no taxes were paid on the amount... and not on the double...

Read moreWe stayed at AirBnB at Bavaro beach and wish we knew about this place before we arrived to a condo, it would make it easy to stop by here after picking up the car at the airport rental company. Regardless, our host recommended it later and we were glad to come back here since if you search “Groceries” on Google Maps close to our condo, you will find many “Supermarkets” which are smaller than your corner convenience store in Canada.
We were primarily looking for the market where we could buy fresh, safe and good quality meat, and their meat section does not disappoint. They have good choice and good quality offered there. They also have good choice of produce and bread, and eggs are very inexpensive! But the whole store is more like Walmart, and you can find selection of many other goods here too.
There is underground parking available if you can’t find the spot in front of the store, that might be even more convenient. It’s great to have a car to be able to come here and pickup groceries but driving around here in Punta Cana is a different story… about that.....
