Saint-Sulpice — Local services in Paris

Saint-Sulpice is a station on line 4 of the Paris Métro in the Left Bank in the 6th arrondissement.

The station was opened on 9 January 1910 as part of the connecting section of the line under the Seine between Châtelet and Raspail. It is named after the nearby Saint-Sulpice church, famous for its gnomon.

Also nearby are the Luxembourg Palace, the Saint-Germain-des-Prés district, the rue Bonaparte and the town hall of the 6th arrondissement. The large public space at the Place Saint Sulpice, which is dominated on its eastern side by the church of Saint-Sulpice, was built in 1754 as a tranquil garden in the Latin Quarter of the 6th arrondissement of Paris. The Fountain Saint-Sulpice (French: Fontaine Saint-Sulpice) or Fountain of the Four Bishops (Fontaine des Quatre Evêques), built in the center of the square between 1844 and 1848, was designed by the architect Joachim Visconti. The fountain presents the statues of four bishops, one on each of its sides:

Some people call this monumental fountain the fontaine des quatre points cardinaux (lit. the "Fountain of the Four Cardinal Points"). This is a bit of innocent wordplay; none of the four esteemed bishops ever became a cardinal.

E' impressionante l'effetto che si ha vedendo la facciata di questa chiesa con una storia un po' travagliata (più di 100 anni per terminare la sua costruzione), si ha la sensazione di qualcosa di veramente gigantesco. Sono soprattutto le due torri che si stagliano ai lati estremi della facciata a rendere questo effetto. Anche l'interno ha un che di maestoso. Meritano una particolare attenzione la Cattedra di Saint Sulpice, un pulpito sul quale in passato sedeva il parroco, gli affreschi di Eugène Delacroix, i decori della cappella di san Francesco Saverio e l'organo sulla parete di...

Très bonne station, rentrez de préférence par la rue de Rennes côté rue du Four (n°65 de la rue), descendez l'escalier en serrant à droite, puis bifurquez directement vers les portillons et prenez celui tout à gauche (surtout pas celui juste à côté, il est nettement plus lent !), ce qui vous positionne idéalement pour accéder au quai. Evidemment, tout ça ne vaut que si vous allez vers Mairie de Montrouge; si vous allez vers Clignancourt, il faut rentrer par la rue de Mézières puis reprendre le raisonnement en inversant gauche et droite....
