THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE OLD LOCATION. It has since moved to a new building.
We weren't too sure about trying this place at first. After all, we were in Berlin, so why would we want to try an American-style restaurant? Well, we were right to give in and try it, what a great place!
The food was what you would expect from the name - mostly of the burgers and fries variety. This is in the best possible way, however, as the burgers were fantastic and had some interesting combinations.
The bar had Franziskaner Weissbier on tap which I was delighted about. It's one of my favourite drinks in the world but is only usually available in bottles here in the UK. Delicious!
The decor was amazingly eclectic and the whole bar has a very rock and roll vibe. Just what I love.
The staff were all friendly too, very cool. It was interesting hearing an Englishman working the door!
There was some live music on also, which seems to be a regular feature. I heard that recently Jello Biafra of the Dead Kennedys even did a DJ set there - I wish I could have been there for that one. Definitely one to check out for gigs.
Highly recommended, I've told all of my friends who are Berlin-bound to make sure to...
Read moreIâve visited Festsaal Kreuzberg three times now, and while I appreciate the venueâs energy and event selection, Iâve consistently been disappointed by the sound quality. The two large speakers at the front are extremely overpowering, especially the bass, which is set so high that it becomes physically uncomfortable and even painful at times. Instead of enhancing the music, it distorts the experience and makes it difficult to enjoy the performance.
I truly believe this venue has great potential, but I would strongly recommend adjusting the sound engineering setupâespecially rebalancing the bass levels and redistributing the sound more evenly through the room. Improving the acoustic experience would make a huge difference and allow guests to actually enjoy the artists and atmosphere without feeling overwhelmed by the sound.
I hope the management takes this feedback into account, as it comes from someone who really wants to keep coming back and enjoying...
Read moreWith all the hype surrounding this place, I fully expected more. Yes, this place is rather unique. An old Chinese restaurant given sum what of a white trash makeover. Is it really hillbilly white trash, no. It is more like a rummage sale.
As for the food, don't wasted your hard earned euros. We ordered chips, ie tortilla chips. They cost 2.50 plus 2,50 for the sales I believe and another 2.50 for bean dip. 7,50 for basic chips and salsa that most places give you for free in the States. WTF. As for the rest of the food, think comfort food like Q in SF, but at a higher price but not nearly as good.
Skip eating there and just come later to watch the band if they have one. As for drinks, they may come in big glasses, but are packed with so much ice, you would be better of just having wine or a beer, though beers are not cheap either but not...
