The Belfry Bar — Local services in County Sligo

Entered the belfry bar on Saturday the 12th of February hoping to get the usual pleasant, excellent service I had experienced many times before… but that was not the case ! On entering and walking through the bar I was rudely and abruptly stopped in my tracks by a small blonde girl who says asked did I need any help. I asked if I could have a table for two for some drinks and food she rudely says “no !” To the point you could hear her on the other side of the bar … I said ok then, is there any chance I can play some pool in the back and she rudely says “ no it’s full “ and says if I wanted to eat and play pool I should’ve booked a time,…I understand it is busy with Ireland playing in the rugby on this day and that the girl might have been stressed or whatever but the way she spoke left me with no doubt in my mind that I will not be returning to the belfry ! Poor staff and poor people speaking skills! Considering I traveled to Sligo from the other side of the country to specifically go to the belfry with my partner for the service I had experienced before !! I can safely say again I will not...

Not even deserving of a single star

I had one of the most appalling experiences at The Belfry in Sligo. I came in simply wanting to play pool or snooker, but what I encountered was blatant racism. Staff told us—Black customers—that the tables were “kept for regulars,” refusing to let us play even though the tables were empty and no one was using them. We weren’t even allowed to play while they waited for their so-called “regulars.”

This kind of discriminatory behavior is disgusting and unacceptable in any establishment, let alone one that claims to be welcoming. It’s 2025, and yet some places still think it’s okay to treat people differently based on the color of their skin. Shame on The Belfry. They don’t deserve a...

Fantastic meal as always, and delighted with how they are handling social distancing, this is one of the best set up restaurants in town to be able to accommodate new measures and they are absolutely complying with current guidance. Staff have clearly been well trained and are wearing proper PPE, and as per usual are friendly and prompt with service; we knew what we wanted quickly and I don't think we waited more than 5 mins for our order to be taken. Definitely worth a visit for that long awaited post-lock down evening out! Update: excellent service and food even for the Paddy's Day rush, still a top choice for us when dining...
