Hooked — Restaurant in County Sligo

As seen on TikTok, is what you see on the menu, and written on many things. Now, we didn't see the food on TikTok before coming to this place. We did book, before coming, but it wasn't that busy for a regular dinner service and there were enough seats left for people to come in, if they wanted to.

Now, we wanted to try all the recommended food, so we ordered them all, the fried chicken, the loaded fries, the fish and chips.

Now I have to say, I wasn't impressed by the food at all. While being the the restaurant, I watched several of the videos on TikTok, and people described it as it is the food you should absolutely have. My question remains, what happened? Did I get an unlucky day? Or did the cook have a bad day? The chicken was dry, not moist at all. Flavour was fine, but you still want the juices to be good. The loaded fries, it wasn't loaded. And the fish and chips, certainly not the amount I would normally see on a plate. I was rather disappointed after the fact that I read about the 'as seen on TikTok' and the food just being average.

Now, if I would have seen the videos of tiktok before, I would have come and tried the food. But I am not really impressed by it. The sizes of the food, very little. If you have a dish called loaded fries, it should be loaded, and not have 4 pieces of chicken and a few fries and then call it loaded. We could easily eat 3 dishes per person, and still finish another dessert afterwards.

As for the service, it wasn't busy in the restaurant at all, and yet it was just dinner time. The waiters had no idea what they were doing, they kept going back to one colleague who could answer our questions. We had the idea there were multiple new waiters working that particular day and therefore, although you have 3 wakfers walking around, none of them had any knowledge on the menu or the food ingredients or allergies. A bit pity, also, despite the fact that you have more colleagues working, it would take rather long to get your newly ordered drinks. I do not want to be complaining about the people as everyone always tries their best. The amount of times taking our drink order wrong, or even forgetting it, was something that is mention able. But like written, maybe they had all new employees that day.

The atmosphere is great though, the restaurant looks good! Very cosy, and good looks, I like it very much.

The biggest question is, would I recommend this place? For the food? No, I wouldn't, just average food, for an average price. For the service, nothing in particular. For the place, good location, good relaxing place, meeting interesting other customers.

The idea of the place is good but there is lots of room for improvement. We didn’t book a table and went in at around 5pm. When asking for a table at the window we were told that all of them were booked for 6pm. Even though we said that we only have a quick meal we didn’t get a window table - when leaving at 6:30 all window tables were still empty - very annoying. Food: we had the vegetarian pita which was ok. The pita bread itself is not homemade which is disappointing as it is so easy to make your own pita bread. The filling lacked texture and a bit of freshness. It was more of a vegetable mash than a nice filling where you can taste all the different components. We also had the slow cooked pork belly which was very yummy. The portion is quite small, considering the cost of 16€ - pork belly is very cheap so you should not be greedy but fair with the pricing. Both dishes (pita and pork belly) came with a little (very little) side salad and a portion of chips. Salad comes with a lovely dressing, chips are ok. Service was quite disappointing. Despite having as many waiters as guests the staff was slow and not friendly at all. We had the impression that they cannot be bothered working. We ended up paying 42€ for two mains (nothing fancy), one coke and one beer - a bit overpriced for what you get. Would I come back? Not sure to be honest. Me and my husband used to come here very often and the staff were always wonderful and very accommodating but something must have changed. It's either a new management or staff is not having as much motivation to keep customers happy. We have ordered chicken tenders for our 18months baby and instead of chips which were on the side we asked if we could have a piece of tomato or avocado. The waiter had to go to ask chef and after returning he said they don't have tomato and they won't give us avocado either. I was surprised as it wasn't a very unrealistic thing to ask for especially since they have options which contain avocados on their menu. The waiter instead said they can give us a salad with mayo and lettuce in it. We said that the baby doesn't eat either so we just went for chicken tenders only. We were really disappointed so when another staff member came to ask if everything was ok I asked about them not being able to give as a small piece of avocado. He said they can give us some but they will have to charge us. We ended up being served guacamole with raw onions etc in it which baby couldn't eat and we had to pay 5 euro extra. Not a great deal since we didn't get chips which would normally come with chicken tenders but we still had to pay the same price for the baby food without chips and 5 euro extra for guacamole .😞very...
