We dropped by Flipside Burgers in Sligo after hearing loads of hype 🔥.This award-winning spot, which snagged the "Best Burger in Ireland" title in 2021, lives up to its serious reputation with exceptional food and a vibrant, feel-good atmosphere. While the vibes were immaculate — think cool tunes, friendly staff, and a laid-back atmosphere 🎶🍔 — the food didn’t quite live up to the buzz. From the moment you walk in, the energy is palpable, with upbeat music and a bright, modern dining room. The menu is a masterclass in burger craft, built on a foundation of high-quality, locally sourced meat. Classic beef options are juicy and perfectly cooked, but the creativity truly shines in their other offerings. "The Dictator," a buttermilk-fried chicken burger with fiery gochujang mayo, is a standout, delivering a flawless combination of crunch and heat. They also earns high marks for its inclusive menu. Vegetarians and vegans are genuinely catered for with inventive options like "The Gamechanger," which features a black bean pattyWe ordered the Dictator burger from the non vegetarian section and the Gamechanger from the veggie section 🌱. They both looked great, but taste-wise, they were just okay nothing so special that you would love to for more and more — atleast not the best burgers we’ve had. For the price, it was a bit disappointing that fries had to be ordered separately as it doesn't come along with the burger🍟💸.

On the bright side, their house-crafted beer was a standout 🍺 — smooth, flavorful, and definitely worth trying if you're into local brews. It’s the kind of place where you’d go more for the hangout than the food.

Reply to owner's response: It said you did takeaway on your Google listing, and I found your restaurant by filtering for places that offer takeaways. I know you know this as its now been updated to say you don't offer dine in, delivery or takeaway. Next time you make a mistake, I suggest you train your staff better and own up to it instead of throwing your toys of the pram and trying to hide your incompetence.

Found this place online as their profile says they offer takeaway but wasn't able to find a contact number for them. I presumed they prefer that you make orders in person and so I decided to go down to the restaurant but was told they don't offer takeaways after all. I explained that I was struggling to find any other place open on a Wednesday evening that offered vegan food so could they make an exception, especially as it was just for a couple of meals, but they stated that they were too busy to offer takeaways. Fine - but which is it? Do you offer takeaway? Do you not offer takeaway? Or just when you're not very busy as the manager as suggested? I was disappointed by their response as they weren't even that busy.

After an hour of faffing around in the town trying to find a vegan takeaway, I was about to give up and prepare a crisp sandwich at the hotel but finally found one fabulous place - Funké - who were more than happy to help. When I walked back past Flipside just after 7pm, they were almost full up with only a couple of tables available outside which led me to believe that the manager was just being lazy.

The ultra cool, hip, bearded dude on the door called me “Brah”.

Therefore, I am now down wiff da kids.

Leaving aside my new found second youth, I really fancied a burger, and brah (soz… I’ll stop 🤪) I was NOT disappointed.

In keeping with a young man from the wrong side of town… I opted for the Renegade Master. Fatboy Slim has personally (*) signed off on the quality of this default damager. Absolutely glorious burgerage. Buttermilk fried chicken, hot sauce, pickles… Power to the People! Some garlic butter & Parmesan fries on the side, and Dis Boi in Heaven.

Word.

Flipside will not disappoint. It’s fast food, but at the next level. Shockingly good.

Now, I’m off to slip into my Ali G trackie and chains…

20/10 for burgerfications.
