Ape Vito Tour Experience — Local services in Matera

We are a group of nine Americans who travel together for 1-3 weeks every two years. This year we spent 10 days in the Southern part of Italy and today we used ApeVito Tuk-Tuk tours to visit the fascinating town of Matera, a World Heritage Site primarily due to their ancient history of the inhabitants living in caves carved out of a limestone mountain. When traveling with a group of this size we often anticipate difficulties with organized tours, but our day was trouble free. We asked for information in advance for parking our two rental cars close to the meeting point which worked out great. Vito was our main point person in making the arrangements - which took a bit of time as he needed three Tuk-Tuks to accommodate nine adults and we all followed each other and made stops in the same spots so the narration didn’t need to be repeated. Meanwhile Antonio and Donato kept the information coming in each of our vehicles between stops. All three of the guides are natives of Matera and were able to tell us stories from personal experiences growing up in the city. We’re sorry we didn’t take photos of our three Tuk-Turks zipping around town, but lots of others walking the streets thought it was pretty cool and snapped shots of us! I can’t imagine a better method of getting a full overview of the town and its history. Highly recommended.

Amazing experience! Vito is a very knowledgeable and friendly guide. We spoked English and when he noticed our mother language (Spanish), he immediately offered to change the language, knowing then that he speaks fluently Spanish among other three languages. We could feel his real connection with the place as he born and grew in Matera and also because how knowledgable he is in relation with history, interested facts, and details from both the past and present. Without taking this tour we have obtained almost nothing of what the Sassi really means, and we know thanks Vito that what we could appreciate is just a fraction of what we can discover and understand from this amazing place.

Really great experience! Vito was very knowledgeable, friendly, and reliable. I was in a group of 6 and the van ride experience was very comfortable. The van was updated and spacious. Vito is a very good driver and you felt safe. I came across his company through google and noticed what his tour offered and I was about to customize it a little and Vito happily obliged. My group was staying in Polignano a Mare so I set that up as the pickup and dropoff and he drove us to the two UNESCO sites Alberobello & Matera. Vito lets you explore for two hours in each location and gives you fast responses via whatsapp for when/where you want to be picked up again. I highly recommend using him.
