This was some of the best dishes my girlfriend and I have had in Italy, after several years of travel here. The Zitti del Baccus, and Porchetta Di Maiale Nero Lucano were both absolutely stand out dishes. Zitti had such an intriguing and fresh flavor, while still remaining comfortable and rich. The Porchetta was crispy, while also staying tender. The fermented cabbage was crispy and full of amazing contrasting flavor to the herb richness of the pork. The mustard fruit along with it just created this amazing explosion of contrast and flavor.
The owners were extremely kind and accommodating. While eating it start raining, and they let us know to make ourselves comfortable under the umbrella with the rest of our bottle of wine as they closed until the later dinner hours. Lovely people, lovely location and completely...
Read moreWhat a find this was on our trip to Matera! Recommended by our hotel, it lived up to all expectations! Food was amazing! We picked a selection of starters, none of which we could fault … my lasagne was perfect and the star of the show was my husband’s lamb stew topped with a bread crust and ceremoniously broken open for him by the waiter ( I’m so sorry not to use the correct Italian name for it! ) desserts were also the same high standard. Loved the ambience and warm decor … beautiful bowls and relevant local tableware … even nicer when the waiter allowed me to take the runner and serviettes home as souvenirs 😊thank you! Both members of staff were kindly and a credit to the establishment. Highly recommend if you’re in Matera … was the best dinner I had in the area over my...
Read moreIf there was the possibility of giving no star at all, our dinner experience at Baccus would deserve it. The fava bean soup with spinach was absolutely tasteless. The tagliatelle with porcini were a disaster of water soaked fungi with sticky overcooked pasta - for 20 €. The eggplant alla parmigiana (which I boaster before dinner - "...you can never go wrong with") resembled a bowl of cat food in appearance and probably taste. The eggplant looked and tasted like bread crumps. The taste of the unprepared eggplant was so indiscernible that I actually took a piece out and dissected it to make sure it was actually eggplant. No trace of any spices and the typical and advertised basil. That was my worst dinner experience so far. The only thing edible at Baccus was the assorted...
