Matera City Tour — Local services in Matera

The bus tour is a 100% tourist trap. Half of the tour is spent in teaffic jam in the ugli part of yhe city, then they drop you in Sassi Caves, waiting to visit a xave house. And back. Save your money!!!

To comment on the answer of the owner: better stick to the facts. The tour spent significant time in traffic jams in the less interesting part of Matera. The issue with the 4 tickets is irrelevant. The agent at the counter explained there is no refund and I accepted the explanation. Even bought a booklet in the shop . Fact: it is a poor tour.

Mater is an incredible place, hence it is impossible not to be impressed :)

We booked a 2 hours tour. The group was too big IMO (about 30 people). We were given some radio to listen to the guide, but most of the time we couldn't hear anything since we were out of range, which is really likely when you are moving around with a group of 30 people in narrow streets.

Personally I would have preferred doing the tour with less people for a higher price.

The guide was well prepared. Overall it was ok.

Avevamo prenotato un’altra visita, con una guida privata, che però non aveva raggiunto il numero di persone tale da comporre un gruppo. Ci ha indirizzato lui a quest’agenzia per un tour della città di due ore. Ci ha detto di recarci alle 17 all’agenzia, ma, poco prima dell’orario prestabilito, ha cominciato a piovere molto forte e, dovendo fare la visita a piedi in una città piena di scalini scivolosi abbiamo chiesto se fosse ancora in programma. Dopo la conferma, arriviamo 4/5 minuti in ritardo, e scopriamo che la visita era già partita. Il problema non è stato non essere state aspettate, che è stato anche meglio perché abbiamo potuto aspettare al riparo, ma il fatto che probabilmente l’orario di ritrovo fosse prima delle 17, perché 20 persone era già partite, tutte con adesivo al petto e pagamento effettuato. Oltre a questo, l’insistenza nell’attesa nel proporci il tour in autobus, quando, alla fine, passata la tempesta (allego video perché sembra esagerato il termine), abbiamo raggiunto il gruppo che era completamente fradicio, a pochi passi dal luogo di partenza. Il tour è durato naturalmente la metà di quello che doveva (ma questo è normale), perché un’ora si è rimasti fermi sotto la pioggia. Forse si poteva evitare la visita nell’umidissima abitazione tipica con voce registrata, super turistica, e preferire qualche racconto un po’ più “sentito”.
