Of all the places in Rome, this treasure of a shops is my favorite. I came across it by coincidence, and I couldn’t help but walk in and look at the shelves that have an incredible collection of rare and historical books, maps and more. I found specific books there that I would’nt be able to find anywhere else in the world. Just being in the store fills you with a unique energy and vibe. The owner was beyond warm and kind, makes you feel like you are family, and is so passionate about books and history and generous with her knowledge. Benvenuti a Diagon Alley! Eh si...perché se avete visto la saga di Harry Potter non potete non trovare tante analogie tra questo luogo incredibile e la strada magica contornata di botteghe favolose proprio dietro il Paiolo Magico. E se ricordate le scaffalature di quei set qui vi sentirete trasportati nel tempo e nello spazio, come nel binario 9 3/4 di una dimensione parallela. A partire dalle splendide vetrine che sono sempre allestite in modo scenografico e che racchiudono - meraviglia di una volta - un meccanismo a scorrimento che consente loro di arretrare per poter chiudere, per poi entrare e trovarsi in qualcosa che a prima vista potrebbe sembrare confuso e accatastato ma che in realtà ha un ordine e una sistemazione tutta sua di migliaia di libri, tomi, schede, riviste, stampe, bozzetti, quaderni, guide, foto, calendari, mappe e ogni genere di memorabilia che nel tempo ha trovato sedimento in questa antica wunderkammer dove non solo la letteratura ma anche la scienza e la cultura in generale hanno trovato una culla felice. Di proprietà della famiglia dall'inizio del secolo scorso praticamente questo spazio esiste dall'inizio del secolo prima, dal 1830, quando era una sartoria, ma nel tempo ha saputo sopravvivere a mille crisi - specie quelle legate al mondo della cultura su carta - divenendo un punto di riferimento per collezionisti e non solo e aprendo ultimamente le proprie sale anche a letture, mostre, dibattiti, presentazioni, personali ed eventi culturali, offrendo sempre comunque un luogo dove immergersi nella ricerca del buono per la mente e del bello per gli occhi. In fondo è possibile accedere a una suggestiva stanza segreta, nascosta da una libreria, che offre uno spazio quasi mistico per chi vuole entrare in una seconda dimensione della seconda dimensione. Esperienza di visita stupenda, che attrae anche molti turisti essendo ricchissimo il catalogo (si fa per dire) di pubblicazioni in lingua inglese. E poi cartoline, pupazzi, gioielli, cimeli, mappe, giocattoli, stampe e mirabilia miste a memorabilia esposte sui banconi o nelle vetrine rimaste intatte da duecento anni quasi. Se siete in zona non dovete assolutamente perdere occasione di fare un salto qui perché sono certo che oltre a rimanere estasiati dalla suggestività del posto sarete anche tentati di comprare qualcosa di unico o raro, magari per pochi spicci o magari facendo l'affare della vostra vita.
