Cute store, but I was very disappointed. I'm not one to pull the race card or leave reviews, and since we are in Italy, we've had several experiences where the staff wasn't friendly once they heard us speak English. Usually, we just assume it's because we don't speak Italian and move on. Rome is very diverse, so l never thought it was race-related until we went into this store. We had just come from a lovely bookstore nearby where we spent a good amount of money (small shopping bags in hand, so clearly we were shopping), and we also looked well-dressed as we packed for vacation. The moment we entered, a woman, probably in her mid-20s like us, came from behind the counter and stood right next to us while we looked around. The shop is small and she could clearly see us from behind the desk, but she walked around with us, the entire time. We kept our hands visible to try to make her feel more comfortable. But no hello, no can I help you… she just silently followed us. Another American couple came in, and they were not of color, very friendly. And she spoke to them, and then continued to follow us. We were simply searching for cute things to buy for our families. I was really disappointed, and we left feeling upset. I hope we can do better as a society in the future. I also pray that this young lady reflects before judging someone based on appearances or her biases. Be cautious if you decide to come here-unfortunately. Sadly we...
Read moreHigh-quality leather, amazing service. A hidden gem in Italy!
I have learned of this leather shop before my visit and I made it a point to visit and see what the fuss is all about! The quality of the leather goods is absolutely top-notch; you can really feel and see the craftsmanship that goes into each item. I picked up a beautiful handmade wallet, which was embossed for free to add some character and personal touch to it.
What really made the experience special was the staff. They were friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about their work. They took the time to explain the different types of leather, how the items are made, and helped me find exactly what I was looking for without any pressure. They even wrapped each piece with such delicacy and wax-stamped, making you not want to open it as it ruins the special wrapping they made.
It’s the kind of place where you know you're getting something authentic and made with care; a far cry from the mass-produced souvenirs sold in touristy spots. I’d highly recommend this store to anyone visiting Italy and looking for a quality, lasting piece to take home.
Can’t wait to come back next time I’m in...
Read moreOf all of the shops we visited on our trip to Italy, Manufactus was by far the best little gem we stumbled upon!! Their leather bound notebooks are absolutely exquisite - even moreso after they custom emboss them with gold foil! And their customized double initial wax seal kits are so incredibly gorgeous and unique. I ended up buying all of my Christmas gifts here for friends and family, as their products boast the most beautiful Italian craftsmanship.
The cherry on top was the friendly and accommodating gentleman who helped us throughout our shopping experience. He took time to show me how to properly use the wax seals and to emboss all of my leather bound journals carefully. When my husband bought a belt from the shop too and mentioned he needed a new one because his current belt was a bit big, the gentleman even added an extra belt hole not only to the new belt we purchased, but to the belt my husband was wearing, as well! Talk about service!
If you only go to one shop in all of Italy, make it...
