It's so sad, we have been coming here for years every time we come to Sicily. The quality of the food isn't the same, not bad but not as great as it used to be either. They reduced the amount of ingredients you get and the love into their food, instead they increased the prices. Accidentally, the man that served us said that in the bread bag he gave me was GF bread, he had two bags in his hand, but he gave me the wrong one, and I dubbel checked with him. Took a bite and realised it couldn't be. And it was not, I asked for compensation since I'm now was going to be sick of eating gluten. The cashier gave us a discount of 4 euros and made kind of fun of me about me being intolerant and her celiac and how I should have been more attentive, etc. Wooow, she does not know why I can't even have gluten and her arguing in front of everyone, and not even being able to say I'm sorry for the mistake puts me off. You can't even have a discussion with a narrow-minded person like that. Very bad service!!! Sorry, I'm never coming back!!! They have totally lost their spirit and good vibe!!! And if you read other reviews they also have been trying to trick other people to pay more or for stuff they didn't even order! This place is a SCAM nowadays!!! And it have turned into an industry, faaar away from when the cute old man used to throw food at you and put up a little show and he was always kind and nice to his...
Read moreThis place is a show and a sandwich wrapped in one. The line may be long, but for a good reason. The two guys there really put their heart into making the sandwich. The older guy is the main chief that makes the sandwich, the younger guy is the helper. They keep the crowd entertained in between making the sandwich, which is why it takes a little longer, but you get free samples and a show. It quite the local experience in the midst of the busy market, while worth your time and make some great instagram stories. Also, there is no menu, you just tell him how many sandwich you want and if you want it with or without meat and the chief will run with his creative mind. Don’t worry, he puts care into every sandwich he is making and from the way he act, you know he loves what he does, so the sandwich is guaranteed to be delicious. At the end of it all, the sandwich only cost 6€, we ended up sharing one because it’s so big. Also, we got quite a bit of free samples while waiting. With 2 coke, we ended up paying 8€. They don’t have a tip jar, but we left them 2€ and they were appreciative. I felt like the experience worth so much more than 10€. Try it out...
Read moreIf you find yourself in Ortigia, Siracusa, do yourself a massive favor and seek out Caseificio Borderi. Our recent visit there wasn't just a meal; it was an experience, a joyful immersion into the heart of Sicilian hospitality and incredible food. From the moment you arrive, you're swept up in the vibrant energy of the place. It's truly magical, radiating optimism and fun. The star of the show, beyond the mouthwatering cheeses and cured meats, is undoubtedly Antonio. He masterfully orchestrates the tables, moving with an infectious enthusiasm and an abundance of genuine "Sicilianità." He's a wonderful person who makes everyone feel like family, adding an unforgettable layer of warmth and entertainment to your visit. The food itself is phenomenal – fresh, authentic, and bursting with flavor. But it's the entire atmosphere, the genuine passion of the people, and the sheer joy of the experience that makes Caseificio Borderi so special. It's more than just a deli; it's a celebration of life, food, and the beautiful spirit of Sicily. I'd love to help you plan another fantastic experience there. Just let me know when you're...
