There are not many stores open but there is one great butcher where we bought different cuts of wagyu beef for Yakiniku and bought karage and rice balls from the opposite store.

We bought shashimi from the fish monger - our meals for the day sorted , much cheaper than esting at the restaurants and better quality food.

If you're around Beppu, want to get some good food and don't mind doing a bit of cooking, book a guest house like J-Hoppers where there's a functioning kitchen and a good space for dining, I highly recommend going to the fresh local market, get some good quality ingredients for better meals. Buy drinks from the supermarkets, save half the price from the...

Very local. May b a bit rough around the edges, but is a kind of fun and interesting market place. Most of the shops have been there for years. The food take out shops are very popular with the locals. Inexpensive...
