Taninoyu — Local services in Beppu

Very atmospheric local onsen! Entrance ¥150, you pay by throwing the money into the plastic tube! Onsen stamp is there as well. You need to bring your own shampoos and towel. Operating hours 06:30-21:30, there is parking. You go down the stairs to reach the doors into the bath. The changing area is connected to the bath so you can see your things while bathing. This is one of the oldest onsens and retains all the atmosphere, as a local told me "it's an old style onsen". The tub is medium size, there is not much space around it to wash and you need to be careful not to splash water to the changing space which is literally next to you. This onsen had one of the best old school atmospheres ever, there is a statue of Fudou Myouou, the Buddhist guardian deity, enshrined on a rock near the tub, I haven't seen anything like it in any other onsen! The locals are really friendly and they told me that the onsen smell is different during daytime and nighttime, really interesting. Totally...

鉄輪の中でも、めちゃくちゃレトロな"谷の湯♨"に浸かって来ましたよー　20211225入湯

鉄輪エリアは細い道が多いですが、慣れれば大丈夫と思い込み、ナビで目を付けていた鶴見岳の山腹にある谷の湯さんを目指しました😃平田川沿いの谷のような場所で谷の湯と言うのでしょうか？

目の前の大きな駐車場の一画が谷の湯専用になっているようで助かります🙆‍♂️でも、手書き看板ての表示が分かり難く、あってるかどうかは疑問ですが😅

入口のパイプに¥150を放り込んで、いざ浴室へ🥸

中は正に鄙びた地元湯と言う感じです👍浴　入口直ぐに放り込み棚の脱衣所で、仕切り無く目の前がシンプルな角槽になってました。

源泉は70℃以上あって、適温にするのに薄めたりしないように、早くから掃除をしてお湯をゆっくり張ってくれていると聞きましたが、チョロチョロとした掛け流しが絶妙なんでしょうか🥸とってもいい湯加減でした👌

奥に何故か不動明王が祀られています🤲入浴中はじーっと睨まれているので、御行儀良く入らなあきまへんな😅
