DAISO Kyoto Shijo-dori Store — Local services in Kyoto

The last time I went to Kyoto was almost a decade ago and it's neat to check out There's something unique about Daiso Standard in that they carry stuff normal Daiso stores don't. Picked up an universal TV remote good for 23 brands for 600 yen just because I wanted it not because I needed it at least not yet. Universal remotes in the USA are made to operate numerous devices and brands so it was weird finding out in Japan, folks like simple replacement remotes to operate one brand of tv and their universal ones are limited to TVs and not other devices. I saw a trendy brown ceramic coffee filter for 300 yen last May 2023 at another location that I regret not picking up and now it's nowhere to be seen. Guess I'll have to pay 1500yen plus for it if I go buy the real thing.

Everybody knows Daiso but this store says Daiso Standard Products, and I'm not sure if Standard Products is a sub-brand of Daiso, but it looked interesting from outside so we popped in. Prices are tagged same as the usual Daiso (and there are the usual products upstairs) but the ground floor has some nice stuff we haven't seen before at unbelievable prices.

We ended up buying some really cute shallow bowls (300yen) and plates (500 yen). Plus a bunch of other stuff that looked good and we didn't recall seeing back home. Check out is self-service and you have to pay for plastic bags, but there's a packing station with lots of brown paper and tape to wrap the breakables so...

Love some of the goods offered in the Daiso stores. I've been to 3 already. Not everything the same, but almost. Definitely the place to buy your adaptors, chargers, usb cords and zatzekaas. That's why I came initially as the 7/11 and Lawsons they were going for 3000 yen plus. Here more like 550 yen. Who needs it to be fancy? Wee gifts at a fraction of the cost of most souvenir shops. It reminds me of the 99cent Store. But not quite 99c....(which none of them are these days anyways). I've seen the exact same stuff elsewhere for double+ price. But ofcource if you want highest quality stuff, then you must go else where and pay. There are good finds here though....
