This place was so cute! We really wanted to try the sandwiches, but unfortunately we had already eaten before coming. Instead, we tried a couple of drinks, and they were both delicious. I’m pretty sure I got a berry lemonade/spritzer, and my partner had an iced chocolate mocha coffee. Both were refreshing and really well made.
When we visited, there was only one young man working, and he was super kind and made everything perfectly. We were able to sit down, enjoy our drinks, and hang out for a little bit. The café itself is small, but definitely worth a stop.
One of my favorite parts was the little garden out the back window where they’ve hidden Studio Ghibli characters. There’s even a note on the wall encouraging you to find them all, I think I only spotted four! They also have a well-maintained restroom, which is always a bonus.
Overall, the whole place is light, airy, and charming. We actually wanted to go back again before leaving the area, but it does get pretty crowded, so we passed on it that time. A lot of places we visited were like this we got lucky with our timing, but noticed that either as we left or when we walked by again later, they were often very busy and packed. Just something to...
Read moreStumbled in here on the way to Ginkakuji -- I just wanted an iced coffee, and my hubby needed a bathroom, so here's a place with both and a cute little garden we can look at as we sip our coffee. We were so impressed with this place! First of all, the coffee! It seems everywhere we went in Japan, the coffee was made fresh to order -- as in, beans ground just then, etc. So, honestly, the coffee was good everywhere. But this coffee was just that little bit extra! I got an iced coffee, my husband an iced latte, and our daughter got an OJ. All of us were very happy with the drinks. But then -- he (the owner, I presume) also had the cutest little sweets to go with the coffees. Again, like all of Japan, they were bean paste treats, and not my favorite flavors. But these were the best I had our entire 3 weeks travelling in Japan. The shop is tiny, and that's the only drawback. But it meant we were there mostly by ourselves, and my daughter found some adorable Miyazaki figurines in the garden and took some cute pics there. I woke up today, still jet lagged, determined to find this place and write a review! Check it out, and best of luck...
Read moreGot the Teriyaki Chicken Sandwish and a Matcha Latte. Cannot emphasise enough how delicious this place was. I was sceptical considering the café culture isn't all that much in Japan.
I'm an Australian, specifically a Melbournian, and this place is bloody great. The guy knows his stuff, I'll have to go back to try a coffee since he's using aussie milk (Bonsoy, Minor Figures oat, we're well known for our coffees and dairy + alternatives) and the matcha latte was rich, full, creamy and had some very nice latte art.
The sandwich... man. Not oversauced, no flavour overpowering, but everything mixed together at just the right levels. Delicious. Comes with a very substantial and fantastic salad. No vinegar, some mayo, a few chips (crisps, packaged chips) for some extra crunch.
Never thought I'd find such an amazing cafe.
The gentleman is absolutely lovely as well. Really friendly, though he doesn't speak a lot of English (Hey, I speak less Japanese than he does English). Hopefully I can make it back again. Smashes a large majority of Aussie café's...
