Machiya Inn Zen — Local services in Kyoto

This Machiya has so much potential – it's truly beautiful, full of charm, and very characteristic. The tatami room and small garden are absolutely lovely, and taking a shower while looking out at the greenery through the glass window was a wonderful experience. The location is great too, about 1 km from the Gion area and close to many shops and the Heian Shrine. That said, there are a few downsides. The kitchen could use some updating, and the wooden bathtub in the bathroom had some mold – I’d personally replace it with a more modern option. The stairs to the second floor are quite inconvenient as well. The biggest issue, though, was the lack of soundproofing. You can hear everything from the street, and I had trouble sleeping because of it. If you're a heavy sleeper, I would absolutely recommend staying here – it’s a beautiful and unique place. Posto strepitoso, magico ed autentico, in una zona strategicamente perfetta! Curato nei dettagli l’esperienza nel machiya è da fare se ci si vuole immergere nell’atmosfera di Kyoto. Servizio impeccabile asciugamani cambiati ogni giorno, Acqua a disposizione, pulizia giornaliera! Unica piccola pecca, siamo stati in estate e le pareti come le finestre non sono termoisolanti e molto sottili, pertanto bisogna tenere costantemente l’aria condizionata anche di notte. Ma hanno pensato anche a questo ed i condizionatori delle camere da letto hanno un’asta di legno mobile per evitare il flusso diretto...

３歳のやんちゃ盛りの子供連れでの宿泊でしたが、ゆったりと泊まることができました。

入室の時、管理人の方には、部屋が整った時に連絡を貰ったり、子供が落ちないようベッドの位置を工夫してもらったりと、気を配って頂きました。

それ以降は家族だけで２階建ての広々とした一棟を独占。内装も庭も写真通りに綺麗で、レトロな戸や棚、柱や梁も雰囲気があってイイ。浴室も写真で見た印象よりも広く、家族３人で入ることができ、ガラス戸を開け放って露天風呂気分で皆で楽しめました。 好立地のわりに宿泊費も比較的抑えられていて、総合的にとても満足できるお宿でした。

ただ、居間からトイレ、キッチン、二階など、どこに移動するにしても土間を通らねばならい構造で… 土間用に、大人用のサンダルは用意して貰っていたのですが、子供はそれを履くことができず、一々靴を脱ぎ履きすることになって、少し不便しました。 私が事前に「子供の布団等は不要」と伝えたために用意されなかった可能性もありますが… 一応、子供連れの方は、子供用の脱ぎ履きしやすいサンダルを用意していくことをオススメします。

それと、階段や２階の吹き抜けに面した場所は、見通しがよくお洒落で、逆に言えば子供が落ちてしまう危険があるなと思い、その場所では目を離さないよう気を付けていました。
