石碑： 大銀杏 島原の大銀杏　島原住吉神社の旧境内地　北端に植わっていたこの大銀杏は、明治維新後の廃仏毀釈により、社格株　ない住吉神社が廃社になるも、神木として遺された。その後、明治36年(1903)に神社は再興されたが、境内はこの大銀杏のところまで 拡大されるには至らなかった。 昭和5年(1930)にこの樹の根元に弁財天が祀られることにより、さらに神木として崇められ、今では樹高20ｍ、幹回り3.5ｍともに樹齢300年相応の島原一の巨木となっている。 平成13年11月吉日 島原伝統保存会

服部 嵐雪（はっとり らんせつ、承応3年（1654年） - 宝永4年10月13日（1707年11月6日））は、江戸時代前期の俳諧師。幼名は久馬之助または久米之助、通称は孫之丞、彦兵衛など。別号は嵐亭治助、雪中庵、不白軒、寒蓼斎、寒蓼庵、玄峯堂、黄落庵など。松尾芭蕉の高弟。雪門の祖。（出典：ウキペディア） Stele: big ginkgo Shimabara's Great Ginkgo Tree This ginkgo tree, which was planted at the northern end of the former precincts of Shimabara Sumiyoshi Shrine, was left as a sacred tree even though Sumiyoshi Shrine, which had no shrine status, was closed due to the anti-Buddhist movement after the Meiji Restoration. After that, the shrine was rebuilt in 1903, but the precincts only extend to this ginkgo tree. It didn't get expanded. In 1930, when Benzaiten was enshrined at the base of this tree, it became even more revered as a sacred tree, and now, with a height of 20m and a trunk circumference of 3.5m, it is the largest tree in Shimabara, corresponding to its age of 300 years.

Ransetsu Hattori (1654 - October 13, 1707 (November 6, 1707)) was a haiku poet in the early Edo period. His childhood name was Kumanosuke or Kumenosuke, and his common names were Magonojo, Hikobei, and so on. His other names include Jisuke Rantei, Sechuan, Fuhakuken, Kantatesai, Kantatean, Genpodo, and Korakuan. He is Matsuo Basho's senior disciple. Ancestor of Snow Gate....

コインパーキングに囲われたかたちであります。大銀杏が立派です。此処に島原七つの文芸碑めぐりの三番目の碑があります。

前回の訪問は冬の時期だったので大銀杏がすっきりしていたが今回の訪問は6月末だったので葉が生い茂っており、大銀杏がより立派に見えた。（2023年6月末再訪）

コインパーキングに囲われたかたちでありますが、以前は、U字柵はあるがそちらからも入れた。今回は、更にロープで通れない様に規制されていた。東側かUの字状に境内に入る形となっていた。また、大銀杏がかなり社殿を覆っていた。

社殿前の石には、左に美須龍王と右に歳白竜王で中央に「弁財天」が刻まれています。
