I stayed here with my family 19th Feb to 22nd Feb 2020. I was recommended this place by my friend who had been here in 2017. He said it was a must and an experience that had to be had. This was the only place in Japan that he said I should stay and wasn't fussed about other accomodations in other cities and I can really see why. From start to finish I felt at home. We as a family get so welcome and had a warm reception throughout. The attention to detail was second to none. The place was super clean and super comfortable. Usually I get anxious about staying with shared bathrooms, but here there was no anxiety whatsoever. I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone coming to Kyoto. It's absolutely a must. Easy links to JR stations and buses. Plenty of delicious places to eat and staff that genuinely care that you have a good time. Yuki was amazing! She helped us so much and wrote down on cute bits of paper places to eat etc and they were lovely everytime. Onur and Takuji were also super friendly and kind. I left some items at the guesthouse and they sent them along to my next destination wrapped nicely and with a super sweet note and with no issues at all. Onur also gave us suggestions of places in Osaka again in a cute note. Basically I absolutely loved it here and all of the people met here mate the experience all of what it was. They even provided a lovely breakfast, coffee and selection of teas completely free of charge. Just amazed at their hospitality. This business definitely run out of love and acceptance of all. Honestly people like you all make the world a better place to be. And I honestly hope I'm fortunate enough to return again, but also very happy in the knowledge that I have been lucky enough to even visit once! THANK...
Read moreI had a wonderful stay at this guesthouse.
A friend had recommended it to me, and I wasn't disappointed. It's a really lovely place which is clean and comfortable, with plenty of free amenities to make your stay more enjoyable.
It's in a somewhat quiet area of Kyoto, a little distance away from downtown, which was perfect for me. I love to be able to explore the busy parts of a city but take a break in a more quiet area to unwind. Very conveniently situated just a few minutes from a train station, and with some lovely little cafés in and around the area.
The staff working at hachi are so friendly and welcoming that you feel right at home as soon as you check in.
The facilities work well and are in good condition, and the general aesthetic of the place is traditional, modern, stylish and cosy all rolled into one. It's a little eclectic which is all part of its great charm.
There can be a little bit of a wait for using one of the showers if you happen to go at a busy time, but that was just once for me in my stay there and is more down to the number and schedule of other guests staying there - so if you stay there do keep that in mind and try to be flexible about it, particularly with family groups.
For the most part, the guests were friendly and courteous too.
Would definitely recommend hachi, and would love to go back there if I'm visiting...

Well you're in luck because this is it.
The perfect balance between infectious tranquility and engaging personality, a home base for exploring Kyoto and a place for you to just call home for a little while.
It's location is not the city center, and this is a good thing. You'll find out how peaceful, quiet, and yet personable the real Kyoto is. With access of course to the more popular spots, it also presents you with the rare chance of experience what non-tourist Japan is like, while enjoying the comforts and connections of an integrated environment.
They have a steady rotation of helper staff who come from all in the world and live in the guest house to keep things clean and to be there for you if you need anything. And while sightseeing is important, a lot of the joy in traveling is in the people you come across. This is the perfect opportunity to connect with different perspectives and sources of knowledge from around the world about Japan - which can be the best way to come to understand it.
Can't recommend it enough, and I'd bet it's exactly the place you'll want to have stayed on...
