真如堂は、正式には鈴聲山真正極楽寺（れいしょうざん しんしょうごくらくじ）といい、永観2年（984年）に戒算上人が開創した、比叡山延暦寺を本山とする天台宗のお寺です。「極楽寺と名乗る寺は多いが、ここが正真正銘の極楽の霊地」という意味を込めて名づけられ、その本堂を表す「真如堂」が通称として定着しました。衆生済度、特に女性をお救いくださる「うなずきの弥陀」を御本尊にまつっており、浄土宗の開祖・法然上人や浄土真宗の開祖・親鸞聖人をはじめとする行者や、多くの人々の祈りを受けとめてきました。 広い境内は紅葉の名所として親しまれていますが、桜や青もみじ、季節の草花による彩りも美しく、一年を通じて散策を楽しんでいただけます。江戸時代に再建された天台様式の本堂や三重塔などの建造物、阿弥陀如来立像をはじめとした仏像・文化財を数多く所蔵しています。いつ訪れても清澄な空気が漂う、洛東の隠れ寺です。（真如堂HPより） 紅葉が綺麗な好きなお寺の一つです。

真如堂　総門 元禄8年（1695年）完成。真如堂西側の神楽岡（吉田神社）の神々が夜にお参りに来る際につまずかないように敷居がないとされています。赤門と呼ばれて親しまれています。〔京都府指定文化財：江戸時代〕（真如堂HPより） Shinnyodo, officially called Reishozan Shinsho Gokurakuji, is a Tendai sect temple whose head temple is Enryakuji on Mt. Hiei, founded by Kaisan Shonin in 984.

The large precincts are popular as a famous spot for autumn leaves, but the cherry blossoms, blue maple leaves, and seasonal flowers are also beautifully colored, making it a place you can enjoy strolling through all year round. It houses buildings such as the Tendai-style main hall and three-story pagoda that were rebuilt in the Edo period, as well as a large number of Buddhist statues and cultural assets, including a standing statue of Amida Nyorai.
