We visited the restaurant on a hot afternoon, a group of six, and ordered five meals since one of us couldn't eat due to heatstroke. The owner charged an additional 300 yen for the person who didn't order, stating that those who don't order must pay this fee to stay inside. Despite the restaurant's limited seating of only 10, there were still two to three empty seats during our visit, so our presence didn't affect the business. Additionally, the air conditioning inside was not cool, making the service charge unreasonable. The owner's attitude was also poor, making this the worst service we've encountered. The food appeared to be frozen and taken from semi-prepared packages, with a very mediocre taste. This is the first time I'm leaving a...

After a long day of visiting amazing temples in Eastern Kyoto, the kids were hungry after exploring Eikandocho Temple. Fortunate to try out Brown Restaurant as the track back to Kyoto Station was too far. Super nice uncle freshly prepared excellent hamburg steak, omurice, seafood set with perfectly fried oysters in batter to accompany the prawns and katsu. Very filling aand my teenagers and 12 year old all gave a thumbs up. Tried mainly his curry sauce but food was finished before we could take pictures. Sorry. Small neighbourhood establishment with a wall covered by shelves of manga. My manga fan teenager's were very happy browsing while the nice uncle fried up our orders. Verdict excellent value budget meal ...

Small little place on the corner ran by a husband and wife. Neither spoke any English but fortunately the menus have some English on them anyway, plus there was a very nice patron there who spoke a bit of English.

These folks are an absolute gem and gave me their recommendations when I wasn’t sure what to pick. They also gave me the name of this purple seasoning to put on rice. They were glad when I said the food was delicious! It was also very cheap. I ate to my fill for under ¥1,000. As someone from a high cost of living city in the US, this was amazing. They were also so surprised I found them on google! So modest!

I would gladly come here again if I’m ever in Kyoto. They were great!

If looking for authentic local Japanese curry rice eating experience and you are near the Philosopher's Path, you got to pop into Brown. The little eatery is run by a senior couple. Customers are seated around the U-shaped bar where the owner serves you. They don't speak much English but the menu has pictures and English labels. We had no issues ordering. Food was cooked fresh after ordering and portions were generous. The ingredients such as the oysters and shrimps tasted fresh, and the beef curry was exceptional. I was most surprised by the miso soup - there's a hint of Yuzu which really made the soup refreshing and super tasty! Lunch for two was only ¥2000. Highly recommended!

Brown is a cozy, family-run restaurant with a unique seating arrangement—there’s a single large U-shaped table where guests sit around it, facing each other while enjoying their meal. The restaurant is run by an incredibly sweet elderly couple. The lovely lady is very kind and enthusiastic, with a charming personality, while the husband is the chef, working in the kitchen and occasionally coming out to serve the customers. The food was delicious, and we truly enjoyed the warm, homey atmosphere. We had traditional Japanese dishes, which added to the authentic experience. Thank you for the wonderful evening!
