If you want to get tattooed in Tokyo, I recommend you check out Tattoo Studio SEEK in Shinjuku.
I had a specific original design request in mind when I contacted SEEK, as well as a tight schedule, both of which Ken-san accomodated. He listened carefully to my explanation of what I wanted over the phone and then exchanged many messages with me on Instagram. He worked off my draft and the photos I sent him to create sketches and after much back-and-forth, we reached a final design, which we then adjusted in person when I visited the studio.
Throughout the process, I felt as though Ken-san understood that there was more to my design than just a set of three spears. He went above and beyond what I expected from a quick tattoo session by diligently (yet efficiently) creating a design I was happy with, adjusting it as requested and suggesting additional details like shading, which I hadn't thought of.
The actual tattooing was a very chill experience. Having something done on or near the ribs can be very unpleasant, but Ken-san worked skillfully with both a gentle and firm technique, allowing me pauses to breathe deeply. Any discomfort was comparatively minimal, I'd say.
After the work was done, Ken-san thoroughly explained aftercare and showed himself to be open to both touch-ups and future ideas of mine. We spoke mainly in Japanese for his convenience, but also in English, which is an option available at the studio.
Don't hesitate to send them a message.
P.S.: I also got to chat with Misa-san, another artist at the studio, who was a total sweetheart. Her speciality is anime aesthetic and she's great with colour; beautiful stuff. Speaking to her and Ken-san, I felt welcome in...
Read moreLet's start with the fact that I walked in with the project that was expected to take approx 4 to 6h to make and after thorough discussion with lads from Shibuya Studio they sent me to Shinjuku studio to meet available artists. Considering that Miya immediately picked up that tattoo of Solid Snake (MGS) with Oni mask, I was convinced that she's the right person to go for. The experience of making the tattoo has been very pleasant, she's an amazing artist and above all very easy going, so the time spent there has been awesome. I'm already planning to return in a year or so, to get some more of the fantasy sleeve done and definitely recommend Miya to do it. The tattoo studio is very easily accessible (to all smokers: they have smoking area too 🤟🏻🤣) in busy area, so after the session you can go and grab nice refreshing drink and some food around (just around the corner from Godzillas head). So to summarise the experience: SuperB!! Thanks Miya! And c u...
Read moreMy friend and I were visiting Japan after a work trip. And we wanted to commemorate my first time visiting with a tattoo! We browsed a few shops based on photos, but when we went in person Miya was the first person who had a genuine interest in our idea and was open to taking us in as a walk-in.
Luckily for us, she could speak fluent English so getting our ideas out was very easy. We decided to book a time slot for the day after just so that we can give her time to mock up some designs for us since we were getting tattooed as a pair.
Miya was very responsive to our asks and took the time help ensure we were satisfied with the design, the placements and line work prior to starting. Great humor and overall demeanor and made me feel confident in my choice! Would definitely recommend her to anyone wanting solid line work. My tattoo is simple but seeing her previous work on her walls also tells me she can do much more...
