I walked past this store as a tourist enroute to The Marquis Maeda Mansion. I came back after and shopped and dined here. It was nothing short of an outstanding meal & service despite my terrible Japanese, I went with the upgrade suggestion of the staff which was amazing. What I truly love about this store was the staff hand written recommendation signs on the shelves. I bought three of the products, when I tried them at Home and gave as gifts they proved to be absolutely loved! Even my Japanese friend said they were outstanding and asked how I found. Even better was the tax refund for all purchases was only two floors above. So I stocked up as much as I could carry! It made my gift and shopping in Tokyo almost a one stop shop! Highly recommend the Akomeya Frieze Dried Miso Vegetable Soup and Curry Crackers (unsure of the brand but it has the staff recommendation sign, and a Sauce from Yasumoto made with lots of nuts that is beyond delicious from Izumo. Top Quality I wish I could...
Read moreI happened to pass by AKOMEYA and spotted their small restaurant as I was looking for a dinner spot. It reminds me of MUJI, which also has its own restaurant at certain locations. The restaurant has about 10 counter seats. It was pretty full on a Sunday at 6:30pm, so I waited about 7 minutes to be seated. There was an even longer line of people waiting by the time I left around 7:10pm.
Their menu features ingredients that they sell in their shop, which is smart. I asked for the English menu and ordered their 2150 JPY fish donabe gozen, which is an earthen pot set meal that comes with an entree (rockfish), super fluffy white rice, miso soup, and rice accompaniments. The food came out quickly and was more delicious and filling than I expected.
After eating, they ask you to take your receipt and pay at the counter. Credit card accepted. I would recommend AKOMEYA’s restaurant for a wholesome...
Read moreDuring my recent trip to Tokyo, I stumbled upon a fascinating shop that boasted an impressive selection of high-end eateries, ingredients, and kitchen supplies. I was genuinely captivated by the variety of goods available. However, my experience took a disappointing turn when a staff member reprimanded my son for blocking the shelves, which made the shopping experience uncomfortable. Typically, I am very apologetic in a situation, but the way the staff addressed me felt rather rude — the first time I've encountered such behavior from a Japanese person. I realise the store may not be kid-friendly, and handling such situations isn't easy. Still, perhaps posting a clear sign outside to indicate that children might not be welcome could help prevent awkward encounters like this...
