Worst experience I’ve ever had since living in Japan (I’ve lived here for 6 months) I bought a pair of trousers for ¥10,000. They offered to hem them. I got them hemmed. They’re almost like a soft dress pant with a scrunchy waist pant. But they looked good once hemmed (they were folded … I opened them and look at the with my eyes) I go home and go to sleep and excited to wear my new pants the next day. As I put them on. One leg is noticeably longer than the other. (58cm compared to 60cm). So I’m like damn this is inconvenient but I’ll jump on the train and go back. (37 mins) I go back and kindly explain the situation and he’s constant denying and telling me nonsense. Like my 2 biological legs are not the same length that one of my legs are longer then the other that’s why they look weird on .. … saying it’s not the pants … it’s my actual legs…and I’m asking if i can try them on and show him in person. (The store it’s not busy at this time) And see if he can measure it and he’s just denying denying. And not open to the conversation. I then leave and take it to a clothing altercation. Then want ¥2700 for the alteraction and they were nice enough to tell me that. “Look take a picture of the our measurements of your pants with our measuring tape and show the store owner this is ridiculous and demend for it to be fixed” so I’m like okay I’ll go back. I go back and I show him the pictures of the measurements and it’s super uncomfortable he’s overall not happy about re-hemming the pants. He took them and told me to come back in 30 minutes. I finally come back and again not showing me with no measuring tape and just with his negatively and just making it super uncomfortable and being hostile … he’s like “check it” in a very hostile way. They’re still wrong. I took it back to my altercation shop 12 minutes later just knowing they’re still screwed but I can’t get him to cooperate and they re-measured and it’s still wrong.

59cm / 60cm the (the pant style is very cropped legs so it’s very noticeable even the 1cm

Hemming skills is not why I’m upset. I’m upset because of how hostile he was. I have the Japanese of a 7 year old and yes it may be inconvenient to speak with me. But again I spend ichi-man on a pair of pants and for you to push me away when you messed up is not right. And once they have my money they don’t want to see my face again.. Again I’ve visited Japan multiple times previously and now lived here for 6 months and never never been...

The rudest and most unpleasant experience I’ve had in any store in all of Tokyo. I’m looking at a leather jacket. I unzip it to look at the inside, and when I go to politely zip it back up I get my hand swatted away and scolded, and told that the “zipper is very delicate”. I’m an avid leather jacket collector with a closet full of leather jackets. This guy is afraid I’m going to hurt the zipper on a 230k yen Japanese leather jacket, which are made with some of the highest craftsmanship in the world…by just zipping it up? He offers me a size 40 to try on, I respond with “can I even touch it?” He then replies “yeah just don’t grab it” Truly the most absolutely ridiculous attitude I have ever seen from a clothing store employee. Do yourself a favor and stay far away from this store. If you’re in the market for a Japanese leather jacket, there’s a store on the same road, opposite side of the street headed toward Ueno station where not only do they have a much larger and better selection of jackets, but you’re allowed to touch them, open the zippers, and...

Great selection of fine quality clothing! I came here to look for selvedge denim made in Japan and ended up buying a pair of jeans from Okayama. Nevertheless, I felt a bit rushed by one particularly unfriendly guy on the second floor while trying on three different fits. I had the impression that he was talking and laughing about me with a coworker; unfortunately, I don’t speak Japanese, so I can’t verify my impression, but it made me feel bad as a customer. Not the best experience in Ameyoko - but also not the worst. Check out...

Scored a pair of 19oz Samurai Jeans here after not finding what I wanted at Hinoya. Ueno Americaya is known for its solid selection of Japanese denim brands like Samurai, Momotaro, and Oni, along with some American labels too. They carry everything from raw jeans to jackets and accessories. Staff were very helpful with fitting and made sure I left with the perfect cut. The vibe is welcoming and low-key

Had a good experience buying a horsehide leather jacket. They want you treating their products well, but the staff were courteous and let me try on the jacket twice before buying. Would recommend others, including tourists, to try it out.
